New tree WHY?

I too am rather fed up with the little gold pot. I do LIKE the tree in many ways but you really have to pay attention when adding people. When you add a child, that childs details pop up. If you have more children to add before you know it you are adding them to the child rather than the parents. Yesterday I added a mother but somehow she became a seperate person. I think she was added but the gold pot said no connection but it had taken place. Tried to complain to Gr but could not get through!!

Im so annoyed with the new tree maker; Im trying to add siblings of an ancestor, but the little gold pot with steam coming out of it sits there steaming for about 5 mins before a message pops up saying 'we cannot connect you to Genes Reunited'. I thought I was connected, or I wouldn't be accessing the site at all!

Hi, I thought I hated it and then when I realised that you could still access the old one I realised I loved it and that it is so much easier to use, howere I only have 100 or so people in my tree, maybe it makes a difference if you have more, I find it alot easier and quicker at accessing and editing. sophiex

Hi All!! Since the 'New Tree' has been introduced I have had 4 people contact me, with links to my ancestors! Had not had any new contacts for weeks before this! So at least its making people come back onto Genes again who may not have done so otherwise! Kim

thank you, thank you, thank you - I wanted the old tree programme - and now you've said it's there still on the left hand side. I'm happy again!! :-) Joy

Thank you everyone for telling me about the old programme! If only I would have had my specs on and read down the list, I cant even hear without my glasses LOL Wonderful. Regards Yvonne

I have just tried to add new family members and even when I enter the place of birth and save new details, it asks me to complete place of birth 'for research purposes'. I go back in and the place of birth I've carefully typed in moments before has disappeared. Frustration!!!!

The new tree works on the 'keyhole' principle so you can only see immediate family and lose the overview. I just hope the old tree format option is retained!

With the new tree setup is it possible to show all family members at one time, it seems to me that it is only possible to view a few immediate family, if you know what I mean. This probably sounds as confused as I am with the 'new' tree.

By the way, have anybody else's photos fallen off their right place? I have two of mine now in place of my Aunt, Uncle, Grandparents and Parents - I don't know where the others disappeared to! Hazel

Well I've been off the boards for a few days and came back to the New Tree Set-up!! I can't see anything on the left that says 'Old Tree Set-up!! Looks like we're going to have to cope with the new ideas - was there any advance warning or opinion poll??? I guess not! A bit like Genes Connected disappearing! Hazel

I like the way you can search for people in the tree. Thats very helpful if you are looking at someone else's tree and only want to follow a particular line.

They have the old tree programme on the left hand side for anyone who wants to use it. I too find the new one frustrating with the adding of place of birth when it is already there! Gail.

Hi I dont like the new tree either, I made a mess of it the other night and when I tried to delete something I couldnt, so Ive give up putting anything on it, as Ive got loads to go on it at the moment. They should have kept the old one for those people who have been on it for ages. Im glad Ive got my Family Tree Maker. Best wishes Yvonne

I cant get used to the new system, why did they have to change it?

I LIKE the new tree but am mystified at the place of birth box. This has already been filled in by me as say Irvine, Ayrshire. There are then 3 boxes to fill in, town, county etc. So what are you meant to put in 'place of birth?? It has become redundant. Just noticed that if you add a new person and put in Stoke for place birth it fills the rest of the boxes. But only if it has your place on its list.
