Sapcote is a village about 5 miles east of Hinckley. You can search it just by typing Sapcote in the Civil parish box, with the name boxes left blank. 732 people, and over 100 of them are called Brown. Wow Unfortunately some villages still didn't have postal addresses Finding Sapcote Road is harder. There are 10 books for Hinckley. Can't see Sapcote Road mentioned in the descriptions so the only way might be to trawl through all the images

Hi Linda I live about two miles away from the Leicestershire Records Office and am going there next week. Would you like me to try and look them up in the parish records. If you don't know Hinckley, Sapcote Road is a very long and broad road which leads from Hinckley to the village of Sapcote. It is very wide and tree lined with all the houses being built from the 1930's onwards. Let me know. Lin

Hi Jim, No I don't think so. They all moved from Leicestershire sometime between Walters birth in 1889 and his marriage in Brighton in 1913 as were his 3 children and their children one of which is my husband Linda

Is it possible that they were out of the Country at the time? They may have been in India for example, and then came home when they had made their pile.

Lottie and Thomas are Walters siblings On birth certificate it's quite hard to read but I think it says Sapcote Road, no number unfortunately The informant was his mother and as residence it just says Sapcote. How do you search an address? Linda

Montmorency Report 2 Aug 2005 21:12

what I meant was, if the cert gives you the address of the house they were living in in 1889, can you find that house in the 1891 census, and who was living there then?

I'm a bit confused now - are Lottie and Thomas the children of Walter or his siblings? Sam x

Hi Robin Can't find Walter on 1891 or 1901 I only know the certs. are correct because he's my husbands Grandfather and my husband knew him and his Gran and we knew her maiden name. Linda

have you found the address where Walter was born, in the 1891 census? the address on Lottie's birth cert should tell you where they were living within 6 months of the census, maybe less.

Hi Sam, They are in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Dea, Yes that was me. Although I can't find them on census I have managed with BMD certs. to go backwards. I have tried searching with just first names but still no luck. That's why I wondered if they were using a different name. Linda

Hi, I saw a message on here the other day from someone researching this name who was going to a book launch soon of someone who had written a book including information on the family. Was that you?, or if not, it may be of interest. Please let me know. Regards, Dea

Have you tried searching with just the first name, age and place of birth and seeing if the other members in the household match up? I wouldn't rule out them being mistranscribed on more than one census - but they are probably mistranscribed differently. I have a great-great aunt, surname Broad. She is mistranscribed as Wadd on 1881 and then completely disappears. I can't find a death, marriage or match on 1891 or 1901. She also had two brothers, one is mistranscribed on 1881 as Rurard and then disappears, even though according to other documents he is still alive in 1927. nell

I have been looking for Walter Harold Prestidge for months, and so have some of you, with no luck. Have his birth and marriage certificate but he and his family are not on 1891 or 1901 census. By looking through 1837.com I think I have found a brother and sister Lottie Sophia born 1891 and Thomas Gilbert 1887. (am sending off for one of these tonight) Now. I can't find either of them on the 1891 or 1901 census either. I find it hard to believe they were mis-transcribed on both Census's so how about the idea they although they were registered as Prestidge they were actually using another name? I have tried their mothers maiden name but no luck. Any ideaas appreciated. Linda
