Doing transcribing, I very often come across the name Harry as a name in its own right. Derek |

Most Harrys are/were Henrys, but it can be it's own name. Harry could also be Harold. |

Harry is a pet name for Henry and Hal a pet name for Harold, although they seem to be interchangable, and Henry V was called Prince Hal in Shakespeare. I have instances of two brothers in the same family where one was Henry and the other Harry. nell |

My grandfather was christened Harry, as were several of his relations - at least 2 first cousins and 3 uncles that I have found so far. Not found any Henrys yet though in that family. My husband's Dad and his Uncle were Joseph Harry and William Henry so I think either can be a name in it's own right. Sue xx |

Aww thats a shame Sue! I don't know about you, but I have spent forever looking everywhere for an Augustus G. Ruston (as he called himself when he got married) only to find a GEORGE Augustus Ruston on every census (bar one!) What a annoying little man he must have been!!! Bev x |
