Yep that's Jan in York's Samuel! lol I think I'll follow Nell's advice and order Selina's death cert and see what it says. Thanks for throwing in your ideas. It's good to have someone else to 'bounce off' Jeanette x

Thought you would say that, coz I couldn't see anything obvous either lol I know everyone always says about certs being spelled incorrectly etc, but Woodhouse doesn't strike me as the sort of name that is destined to go wrong??? Maybe he ran away to sea??? Oh, who the h***s this?? 1901 Samuel Woodhouse 50 Yorks Flambro Yorkshire Bridlington Fish Merchant A cousin??? MMM

Thanks for those Monty! I was actually worried that I might have missed the vital quarter! lol. But as you can see there doesn't seem to be one that matches. What are the chances of his name being mistranscribed/spelt wrong on the death cert?

Ah, thanks. I must be losing my marbles as I did a search without the first name and didn't see her lol So she said ''widow'' then?? But as you say, this might not be correct....... Hi Steve It's the actual images I've searched on FreeBMD. They're the same as what's on 1837 but free, only it takes an awful lot longer to search them!

Jeanette; Ye say ye've checked FBMD, but they're not always 100%. How about 1837? Get the pukka, original records there. Personally, I'd never give up without having first gone direct to source. Heh; Even then I don't give up! ;-) Steve.

Hi Nell I haven't got Selina's death cert yet. It's one of a very long list I need to get! lol I haven't tried a surname variation but I have tried Samuel, +/- 5 years born in Flamborough

On Selina's death cert does it describe her as wife or widow of Samuel? Are you assuming he died because you can't find him on the census - have you tried Hoodhouse, Wodehouse etc?

I can’t find my Samuel Woodhouse. Here’s what I know. My 3x great Aunt Selina Greenley was born in North Burton (Burton Fleming) Yorkshire in 1848 - parish records. She married Samuel Woodhouse born 1848 in Flamborough, Yorkshire (PR’s) in 1872 in Flamborough (PR’s). In 1873 they had a daughter, Elizabeth, born in North Burton (PR’s). In 1881 they are altogether living in Leeds. In 1891 Selina is a patient in Leeds General Infirmary. She dies in the June quarter of 1891 - FreeBMD images. In 1891 Elizabeth is boarding with a Jane Gutteridge in Armley, Leeds. There is no sign of Samuel. In 1901 I can’t find an Elizabeth Woodhouse but assume she is probably married by then. There is a marriage for an Elizabeth Woodhouse to either Herbert Sanderson or Robert Blackburn in the Dec quarter of 1894 in Leeds, so a possibility. My problem is I haven’t been able to ‘kill off’ Samuel. I have searched the images on FreeBMD from March 1881 to September1891 and can’t find one to fit. He’s not the Samuel born in Flamborough c1851. He belongs to Jan in York! lol Has anyone got any ideas please? Jeanette x
