Can anyone help? My Gt Grd Father: Arthur Probert was born in c1852 in Birmingham. Father John, mother Harriet nee Fereday. He had two brothers (Henry b1844 and William b 1850). By 1861 John Probert had died and Harriet and re-married a Thomas Mcguire and had two children Elizabeth b1859 and Thomas b1860. Here are my problems: 1. I can find that both Henry and William were born the the parish of St Mary in B'ham, but I cannot find the birth of Arthur (G G F) anywhere. 2. I can also follow Henry and William through the census records but Arthur disappears from the census records until 1901 where he is married to Selina Ellen nee Marshall and has a child Alfred Arthur (my nans brother) 3 The McGuires vanish...although Thos McGuire has his birth place shown as Ireland on the 1861 census, so could have moved back. Anyone have any ideas as to where I could try and find why Arthur doesn't appear to have been born (but I'm here) and why he would vanish for 30 years from the census records. Or have any tips on alternative searching methods. Thanks Matthew

Ok, it's possible Arthur went to Ireland with his mum and Thomas. Do you have his marriage details?

Thanks for the help, but I still can't fing when Arthur Probert was actually born, I've tried variations on the surname Probet, Robert, but nothing. Any suggestions for other variants I could try. Cheers
