hi have looked for my richard mayo marriage from 1870 to 1881 and have come up with four possibles is there a site you can use knowing ref details to find others on that same detail please,as they werent on freebmd or familysearch thank you karen:)

KathleenBell Report 21 Sep 2005 23:26

On 1837online you would need the name of the spouse to check if the details were the same. If the marriages are on Ancestry you can usually click to see who else is on the same page. If you want to give the details I'll have a look and see if I can find anything. Kath. x

Assuming you found the four marriage on 1837 online, Karen, you need to look up the different variations you have for Mary's surname in the same quarters and see if there is a matching entry for district, volume and page number there. Kate.

I rthink if you go to the GRO site you can see others on the same page.

Kate

Kate Report 21 Sep 2005 23:31

Ah, but if you mean the five Richard Mayo marriages that come up on FreeBMD for that time span, then for each one you just click on the page number and it will show you all the matching entries that have been transcribed for that quarter, and it looks as though all are present and correct for those five, with no Mary Maudants or anything like it among them. Sorry! Kate.

hi everyone yes did go to 1837 i tried maudaunt and mordaunt as spellings but got nothing,i will try gro sorry didnt realise you could use that have only ever ordered my certificates so will have a look thanks for that karen:)

Kate

Kate Report 21 Sep 2005 23:38

Sorry, Karen, I meant you click on the page number on FreeBMD. It won't work on 1837 online as their site isn't indexed for the individual entries, only for first and last entry on page. Kate.

Have you looked at Mary in 1881 census and then tracked her back through previous ones? Could it have been a 2nd marriage for her so that she married as Mary ??? ie her first married name, when she married Richard MAYO? This is going to be an expensive research if you have to order 4 certificates at a time on the offchance that one might be right.

Can you confirm where the family were in 1881? Is it the family where the head is listed as William, not Richard?

Kate Report 22 Sep 2005 11:54

Karen - have a look at this website: http://genforum.genealogy (.) c o m /cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Walsall::mayo::696.html remove brackets and spaces Or if you go on Genealogy d o t c o m and find the Mayo surname forum and search for Walsall it is the last message that comes up - 'Richard Mayo/England to U.S. & Can' You may be able to contact the person who posted it up - if he hasn't changed his email address since he posted it in 2000. Hopefully he has lots more info by now! Anyway, one of the things he says on there is that Richard and Mary's first child was Thomas born in Shelfield 1868, so I guess their marriage would be before then? But also, confusingly, he has your John William known as William listed just as William, and then a John born 1881. I'll have a nose around and see what I can find to confirm or refute any of this, but anyway, do have a look at the forum! Kate.

Yes, now we're getting somewhere. This is them in 1871, and so your marriage search started too early!! View Record Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish or Township County/Island View Image View Record Elizabeth Mayo abt 1865 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Daughter Pelsall Staffordshire View Record Lavinia Mayo abt 1870 Pelsall, Staffordshire, England Daughter Pelsall Staffordshire View Record Mary Mayo abt 1845 Lancashire, England Wife Pelsall Staffordshire View Record Mary J Mayo abt 1863 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Daughter Pelsall Staffordshire View Record Richard Mayo abt 1840 Rushall, Staffordshire, England Head Pelsall Staffordshire View Record Thomas Mayo abt 1868 Shelfield, Staffordshire, England Son Pelsall Staffordshire Hope you haven't ordered all those marriage certs already.... Kate.

Kate Report 22 Sep 2005 12:00

If James Mayo on Genealogy is right, it suggests that Richard had a first wife before Mary, who was the mother of Mary J. born 1862-3 and Elizabeth born 1864-5, which would make the marriage to Mary some time between 1864 and 1868. But maybe he just didn't know about those two children? It seems more likely that Mary J. would be Mary's daughter, doesn't it? Back in a minute, no doubt... No, can't really find anything else at the moment. I think you will have to extend your search of the GRO marriage indexes back a few years... But if you can't contact James Mayo through Genealogy d o t c o m he is also listed on ancestry research profiles and you can send him a message that way. Kate.
