Hi Peter Thank you for looking up the 1851 census for me. No you are right it does not look like any of them. The first Thomas though is his grandson I think but will check it out. Thank you for taking the time to look for me.

Hi Merry Monty Montgomery Thats ok, not very good at explaining myself!! It does state on the marriage certificate that it is the fathers names, but as Gwyneth said (and I never thought of) it does not mean that he was alive then, which makes thing easier-NOT. Thank you for offering to look up for me and for your help.

Just noticed on this board that Shirley is offering HAMPSHIRE 1841 lookups. That might help you.

On Family History Online there are 3 Thomas Underwoods on the Hants 1851 census. But I have no credit left! UPDATE: Peter has kindly looked them up below..... Merry

Sorry, I thought you meant the older one had only been proved to have lived until 1815!! I didn't realise he was a witness at the wedding. Beware that the witness could be a cousin of the same name!!! Merry

Just a thought - have you tried the rootsweb Mailing list for Hampshire - some people there sometimes have burial records - or GENUKI for Hampshire? :-) Joy

Did he sign as a witness at his son's wedding? Can you be sure that he was alive? The address on a marriage certificate is for each of the bride and groom, I think, not the parents. Maybe a trip to Winchester to look up Wickam 1841 census might show if older Thomas is there. I think alot of Hampshire 1851 census has been indexed so you might be able to track him down that way, if he was still alive.

The NBI is hopeless for Hampshire......but the Hampshire Genealogical Soc have their own version (lol, just Hants!) 1400-1837. It is SUPPOSED to be ''complete''!! Here's all the Thomas Underwoods on it: 13 APR 1559 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - PETERSFIELD 08 APR 1567 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - STRATFIELD SAYE 27 MAY 1584 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - ROTHERWICK 13 JAN 1586 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - STRATFIELD SAYE 01 AUG 1613 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - ROMSEY 07 JAN 1763 UNDERWOOD THOMAS - FROXFIELD 14 MAR 1812 UNDERWOOD THOMAS 62 WHITCHURCH and all the Underwoods who were buried in Bishopstoke: Oh, there weren't any lol!!! And I tried various spellings and soundex. If you want any more lookups for Hants before 1837, put them on this thread..... Merry

Hi Jewel The following site has entries of the National Burial Index. It is free to search but to get the details you do have to pay. Alternattively you could ask on the GR boards for someone to do a lookup on the NBI for you. www(.)familyhistoryonline(.)net/login/login(.)html ignore brackets. Suzanne

I only have Thomas (2) and wife Eliza Bones fathers on marriage cert. Being as I live in the area I thougt if I could find his death I could maybe find out a bit more. Could you tell me where I can find the national burial index please. Julie

Hi The following represent a search of deaths in hampshire from sept 1837 - 1860: Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page Deaths Dec 1843 UNDERWOOD Thomas Southampton 7 139 Deaths Mar 1848 UNDERWOOD Thomas S Stoneham 7 195 Deaths Sep 1848 Underwood Thomas Petersfield 7 77 Deaths Jun 1854 Underwood Thomas Southampton 2c 5 Presuming he stayed in the same area, Bishops Stoke in is Eastleigh which in turn is covered by S Stoneham so the death in 1848 might be your Thomas. Later deaths give the age which is a help when trying to determine an individual. If you know of his spouses name you could check up the 1841 to see if he was still living in the area? Other than that you could check the national burial index. Hope this is of some help. Suzanne

I am having a lot of problems finding death records, but one I would really like to sort out is for Thomas Underwood who was born in Bishops Stoke, Hampshire. He had a son called Thomas who was also born in Bishops Stoke in 1815, so I am assuming that Thomas (1) must have been born at least in 1799. Could anyone help me find when or where Thomas (1) died. Also any advice on searching for deaths. Thank you in anticipation. Julie
