Maybe it was empty in 1891? If Charles Richardson had bought it for him to live in with his new bride and then she died, he might have had it closed up for a time. I have found him in 1901 living with wife No 2 and with his in-laws at Leamington Priors Warwickshire. He remarried in 1892. He was supposed to have been born in Marylebone in 1854ish, but I still cannot find him in 1891. Maybe he had gone on a tour of Europe or something?? In 1901 he was living on own means. The image says they live at Great Houghton House, and it must be a school, judging by the amount of scholars there, oh yes and an assistant master. It's 2 residences from the first entry, the toll gate house. Don't know if this helps at all Jess.

So, in conclusion........ 1861 - Woodward 1871 - Coales 1881 - Wales 1888 Richardson 1891 Sullivan 1901 Rawlins There's a few more bits in the paper (Times): 1918 - Lt-Col Rawlins died there 1920 - GHH up for sale. 14 beds, 12 acres 1955 - Advert to posh parents who are unable to have their children at Christmas (!!) - Send them to GHH to be cared for 1969 - Lt-Col Rawlins daughter dies aged 91. The notice says her dad was ''of GHH'' even though he's been dead 50 years and the house sold in 1920!! 1978 - Family named Barnes live there. Son marries from GHH In the unlikely event that you want copies of anything from the paper, let me know. I won't be around til this afternoon though...... Merry

Merry, fascinating stuff! Barnes family still there- except Oswald that died 3 years ago, was their 50th year ths year so they must have bought it soon after the lady died, although do know it was boarded up for a few years. Kids at christmas - Yes that was the Barnes,i think, in their very early days it was a boarding school. I would LOVE those articles - can you either forward them, or tell me where to source them? brilliant! Have been back to the Historical Directories again. They have a Pigot 1841. In the Northampton section 'Nobility, Gentry and Clergy' there are just two entries where the address is shown as Great Houghton. GEORGE Mr John, Great Houghton WILLIAMS Rev Richard, Great Houghton So, if John George was not the vicar, he was either Noble or Gentry. As a MR we must assume that he was Gentry. Perhaps someone has access to the 1841 census and can check out Mr George. Pete

ive just phone the school secretary-she s going to phone back with the name of a family that were there-its always been called great houghton Hall,and I think they have early 1800's photos there. hows that for service.:-)))
