Don't ask me where the info comes from, but my understanding is that at long last FreeReg could be up and running in the near future. I'm told that more than half of the first 58 files being uploaded to the database have been completed, and for those with rellies in East Lothian, almost 40% are from that county. Small beginnings, but at least it will be nice to see it moving at last. I expect the cynics will 'have a ball' sneering at this posting, but I wonder how many of them have actually volunteered to transcribe for FreeReg - or indeed any free database. I would agree however that it has been disappointing from a PR point of view, which could have been averted with an occasional 'progress report' on the site from time to time. Gordon |
