I see from the 1841 website that they reckon that this will be on Ancestry from 1st November. |

I noticed earlier that 1851 is on the drop-down menu thingy when you select which census year you want to search. It didn't say '1851 sample' just 1851. When I tried it it just said that there were no results. |

Sorry I don't understand!! I don't subscribe to Ancestry but just buy units as and when I need to. I bought units and used them to view 1851 info surely if I wasn't meant to be accessing the info I woudn't have been able to use the uniits!! Frances |

Hi Gary I don't think any of us were hacking into the site, after all, it wasn't password protected. FRC and TNA have specifically blocked access to the 1851 while they evaluate it, so at the weekend I could view the index at home, but not at the FRC (and I gather that that applies to Ancestry subscribers too). |

exactly Merry, nothing wrong in using the site, but when you are on a part of the site that has not been released, you cant complain you cant see when others can, this has given the game away and now nobbody can see it. |

I get 1861 results is I try to search from there. If, like has been suggested, I change the address to 1851, I get this... ''The search request could not be completed because insufficient information was provided to Ancestry.com. If the search request originated from another web site, please contact that site's administrator to resolve the problem. Search for your ancestors at Ancestry.com, or click here to return to the previous page. '' |

Hi Karen in the Desert (hope it's hot there??) I think Gary meant that some people who were accessing the 1851 via the much publicised ''back door'' route that many of us on here have been using to see the census over the last few days, were ''idiots'' to complain to Ancestry when they found they were having a problem with the back door access!! ''If you have found a way in then don't complain if someone in authority shuts the door'' type of thing...... Hope I didn't tread on your toes in answering, Gary! Merry |

Yes I think that we were all jumping the gun a bit - obviously it's still in the testing stage so let's all have a bit of patience (lol!), and with any luck it will be officially on-line soon as promised. Hopefully the half-dozen ancestors that I couldn't find last week will be on the full version when it is finally released! |

I think it was pulled, because idiots were emailing Ancestry about acesss problems to the 1851, and Ancestry must have thought hang on you should not be acessing it any way, so to stop the complaints they have blocked it |

Helen, It wasnt complete - according to it Warminster had only three streets (and my ancestors werent living there!). I know because i double checked with someone who has it on cd rom. I think it was on hold waiting release. Hopefully it will be released in next couple of weeks. Elaine x. |

The whole point of having a database is for people to use it, surely? I don't understand what's going on. Just glad I found most of my rellies before it went. nell |

Boo Hoo, the 1851 census has disappeared now, perhaps they were only testing it, or have removed it because so many people were using it? Still it was very useful while it lasted I found quite a few bits & pieces to answer some questions, one of the ancestors had moved from Essex to Suffolk, explains why I was unable to find him, son had searched the census indexes in London, but for Essex, so we found having the 1851 on line very useful, the ancestor was there, but had moved to Clare in Suffolk! then moved back for 1861. Went to go on again a few mins ago, and found it had now gone |
