When i order this marriage certificate what information will it give me as marriage certificates these days don't give ages or anything, hopefully her name on the marriage certificate will be correct and if it is spelt corran then hopefully i will find her soon after.

Big mistake to discount a lead like that in West derby,just because you havent heard of that other middle name before-you must remember that the knowledgre given to you in the first place has been vague,and incomplete.Added to that her name is incredibly unusual-that extra middle name might be something like La Grange or something,but just because it hasnt shown up yet,dont discount it.West derby is a district of liverpool.People often added names,or took them away or used middle names as first names. Sorry chap but youre being a little too cautious-by all means be thorough,but dont close doors-you have a major advantage here-the unusual surname. Ive looked at isle of man-there are many corruptions of the surname on the island. Corran/Corrin/Carran/Karrin/Karran/Carine/Carrin. The Corrans in some parts of the Isle of man were associated with fishing. On the subject of certs-they are £7 and take approx. 4 days,when you use the GRO website-you need a debit/credit card.

Karl Thats the correct website. When the form comes up you shoud see a box saysin 'is the GRO ref known' tick yes and then on the next page there is a place to fill in the ref. You should then only pay £7. Hope that makes sense. Jacqui

Erm, scuse me, but I told Karl several DAYS ago, on one of his other threads, that the name Kennish - actually a mistran of Kerruish (Carruish, also) I bet my bottom dollar - is from the IOM, as is Corran, which is also frequently mistran as Curran, and often spelled Corraghan, or Corrahan, in the IOM PRs. There are absolutely trillions of Kerruish's on IOM. Fortunately, the IOM PRs are currently being added to IGI, and quite a few are already on there. I found my missing 2 x GGM with ease, plus her parents and grandparents. There is a useful site for IOM which goes into great historical detail and has many, many transcriptions etc on it. I ordered mine from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp and both cost me £11.50 each and took over 3 weeks to arrive, if anyone can help me to pay only £7 and get it that quickly i would be very very grateful, thanks. ....................................................................................... It says if you want it delivered within a week you have to pay an extra £16.00 so £27.00 to recieve a certificate within a week, rip-off!

Karl You should never pay more than £7 for a cert! Did you include the GRO ref on your order? Jacqui

If you have the correct references, which you now do, the certs only cost £7 if you order online. They should only take 4 days too.

What sort of information will i get when i recieve IRENE M CORRAN's marriage certificate? ...................................................................................... I think certifcates are very expensive i've ordered 2 so far and they have cost me £11.50 each and they take 3-4 weeks to arrive, but i am going to order one for IRENE M CORRAN.

I have seen that one IRENE M CORRAN born in w.derby in 1916 but don't think that's her simple reason because i've only know her to have mary as her middle name and as far as i know she doesn't have 2 middle names.

There's an Irene M Curran from Wales too... I forgot where though.

I must be psychic.............. Just looked up the surname CORRAN on GR's database-there are only 83 listed,and guess what................ a few from liverpool,a few from other areas including Ireland but an absolute shedload from THE ISLE OF MAN !!! particularly Douglas. I should be getting paid for this lol !!

I wouldnt discount the Isle of man either for her birth. I'll have a look on a few sites to see if she shows-the marriage cert is the key-it should give her age ,unless it just says of full age,which just means after 21. Remember that most marriages of that time will be closer to the brides home area. Being married in liverpool,and another person with this unusual surname being married in bootle,which is the dock area of liverpool,suggests an Irish link-Liverpool is the unofficial capital of ireland. If her birth isnt on Lancashire or north wales bmd,i'm convinced she was born out of the country,or even at sea. Karl-that marriage is definitely yours-the chance of it not being are about odds of 63 million / 1........!!

I will order the marriage certificate as long as that record is correct which it looks like it is.

Irish records are not generally availible on line so that is about a non starter. What you need to do now is send for the marriage cert , using the ref that Alter found, which will tell you both the bride and the grooms father THEN we can maybe know where we are going jess

It is an interesting theory that IRENE M CORRAN was born in Ireland, i never would have thought so myself but it is a possibility, but i thought as she lived in wales and in swindon, wiltshire she would have been born in england or wales.
