Hi Jess yes that is the 1901 census. I have no real idea what Polly's maiden name was as both her grandsons thought her name was Dorothyand her maiden name to be Howard so I am confused at her entry as Polly. I have not been able to find a marriage certificate for George and wife or birth certificate for their son Albert who was my grandfather. Thanks Dot |

Hello Jess, what I am interested in finding out in the 1851 Census is where James Byrne is living. In the1851 Census his wife Judith Byrne is down as a widow and her son Nicholas and daughter Mary are still living at home. Yet on Judith’s death certificate 29 September 1853 at Cooper Street someone by the name of James Byrne of 1 Wheeler Row was present at the death. Would you be so kind to find any James Byrne’s living in Leeds at the time of 1851 at other addresses? It seems strange that Nicholas her son did not register the death if James was allegedly dead as shown on the 1851 Census. The only other options are that James is a relative, or the death certificate is for another family, which is highly unlikely. Or James was alive all along and living somewhere else in the city. Thank you for any help you can offer, kind regards, Christopher |

Thank you for that information Jess. Does it list their address details at all? Unfortunately I do not know much more information than what I have offered. It’s just a puzzling question what happened to James. Was Judith a widow after all? And who was the James Byrne who registered the death? My own feelings are that it’s a member of the family and I would like to research the connection. So if there is any further details for the two James Byrne’s you have found I would appreciate your help. Kind regards, Christopher |
