Only negatives from me.....No Ellen Toomey's of the right age, born in Ireland, on the 1901 census.........and no Ellen Toomey's marrying a Nulty or an Osborne (any spelling) 1912 to 1920 inclusive in England or Wales. Merry |

How do you know what you know about her? If you are working back from yourself, you must be descended from one of her children - who, and where and when was s/he born? nell |

HELEN SHE IS MY HUSBANDS GRANMA I HAVE HER DEATH CERTIFICATE |

|
Merry | Report | 9 Nov 2005 16:27 |
Do you mean her DEATH cert says she was born in 1891 in Ireland?? (therefore may not be correct, just what the informant believed) Did she marry twice then??? If you can give more info on what you know (like who her children were and when/where they were born) we might be able to point you in the right direction........ Merry |

Ann OK. So if she's your husband's grandmother, your husband's mum or dad must have been her child. Which, and what is the name and when/where they were born? nell |

Have you thought of trying other spellings? Toomey sounds like an English version of the more correct and more Irish TWOMEY. Janet |

Ann Irish people coming to England back in the 1840's+ wanted to fit into English society so there would be less chance of victimisation and so you will find much evidence of anglicising Irish names. In genealogy different spellings of names are the norm. Janet |

Well, unless she had a child in this country I don't see how you can find when she arrived, as you would need an address here to search. Have you investigated whether she had other children born in Ireland? (I know from personal experience what the Irish GRO records are like!) If you think she had a child here (I mean Eng/Wales)I don't think it can be before Patrick as I looked on Family Relatives for any Toomey/Nulty or Osborne births earler on the thread. (though I haven't tried the other possible spellings of Toomey.) You would have to trawl the Eng/Wales GRO indexes for after 1920. Merry |
