Marriage records are very important to Family Historians. A recent thread was a query re Full Age that appears on early Marriage Certificates. (I always feel cheated when this appears on a purchased certificate) I will not attempt to fully describe the meaning of the title, a web search should give answers. Basically they are a licence to Marry, and contain details that are most useful, and normally indexed. In Leeds Library they have 'Index to the Archbishop of York's Marriage Bonds and Allegations from 1742 to 1836' I will show one record from my family line to illustrate record. Bridegroom Joseph Whincup, Age 24, Parish of residence Kirk Deighton, Bride Elizabeth Helmsley, Age 22, Parish of residence Kirk Deighton, Bond Date 21st March 1782, Parish Church Licensed Kirk Deighton P/C. Note actual ages. When weddings take place often 'Full Age' shown. Look for these most useful records in your area. Regards Ray Whincup |
