Hi everyone, A Happy New Year to the Leicester Sleuths and thanks for past lookups they have done for me here and there, greatly appreciated :) This is a general query about Whitwick parish records, which I believe are indistinct in some areas. I was wondering whether Bishop's Transcripts or other copies exist that might be more readable. I am aware that the BVRI doesn't cover Whitwick,. neither does the local family history soc CD Any suggestions or advice gratefully received Regards Jane

Greeting’s Jane…… There are a few Parish Records available at :- Leicestershire & Rutland Record Office. Long Street. Wigston Magna. Leicester. LE 18 2 AH. Tel. 0116 257 1080. Fax. 0116 257 1120. But the majority didn’t keep very well Plus some were lost …..Fire ? Some Areas of Whitwick are tagged on to other Villages Thringstone, Swannington, I have the 1841. Census returns for Whitwick ( Although some of it is faded ) and then Census returns for 1851. through to 1901. Plus I have some Burial records for Whitwick. But as Elaine has said “ Please do ask here “ And we‘ll see what develops …… MIKE.

Hi Mike and Elaine, Many thanks for your help and suggestions. The Whitwick website is interesting, and I see they have a historical society too. Mike has been a great help to me in the past, had a look for my elusive rellie in various records, parish and census, with no success. As a reminder, the problem is my Benjamin Woulidge was born in Thringstone in1804 or thereabouts according to census records, and left the area circa 1824 to travel overseas. I can pick up the story from then, he returns to England circa 1836, is in Manchester in 1841 and Cheshire in 1851 and 61, returning to Leicestershire in 1871 -- no clues in any of that so I know nothing of his parentage or those first 20 years except he was in the hosiery trade. No sign of anyone else in the area or elsewhere with the same surname, and all subsequent Woulidges are his descendants. Hence my hope that the missing parish records would have another copy, somewhere, either BTs or something I'd not heard of. Still, mysteries are the spice of family history Thanks again for your interest Regards Jane

Does anyone know which enumeration district Marjorie Street Leicester would come under? I am looking for a family called Burbidge who owned a shop located there. According to my sisters MIL they owned the shop when she was born in 1900, but cannot find anything on the census returns. Thanks JoJo

Clara Raven married Edwin Burbidge December quarter 1873. Edwin died Sept quarter 1880. They had 4 chldren Edwin, Lizzie, Walter and Frank. Clara re-married to a John Bradshaw Sept quarter 1886. On the 1891 census Clara is listed as married but John is absent. They now have Roland and Lousia? On the 1901 census Clara is a widow. I cannot find a death for John any where. If he died in the Boer war would I be able to find a list some where of the people that died? I have no other information on John. Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks JoJo
