Devon Village Forlorn Hope I am currently doing some research on Abbotskerswell Devon in The Great War 1914 -1919 and specifically on the The Roll of Duty and Honour which currently languishes unseen in the parish room. My aim is to update the Roll and post it on the village web site as a more fitting and accessible record of sacrifice and service. At the moment there is no mention of any women (surprise) who were engaged in war related work connected to our village. Nurses, VAD, Auxiliary Drivers, Womens Services, Red Cross, Womens Land Army, Munitions work, etc. The roll is not just for the casualties but also for the survivors who served. My Forlorn Hope is to ask does anyone have female relatives born or living in Abbotskerswell, Newton Abbot, Devon who served in any of the above ways. Thank you Bob |
