I want it to say ''Shore''.....Though have to admit, the first two letters look more like ''St'' as in the bride's surname...... Is that them living at Monkwearmouth Shore in 1851? Andrew aged 39 and Mary aged 34? Merry |

Thanks I already have them on the 1851 census but not the same one you . They are staying with her brother William in South Shields (he is my gt gt gt grandad it was a long shot to try and find his roots) Andrew Mather is down as a Grocer Rothbury on 1851 and they have 3 children Mary A, Isabella and Andrew Oh dear I am more confused. |

Realised afterwards that the MWM Shore people had too many children to be likely to be yours (as your Andrew was a bachelor!)...... I note that Mary signed Stibbins, not Stibbings....... Merry |

Merry | Report | 23 Dec 2005 21:57 |
Stone is what I thought it said in the first place, but couldn't see why it would be that?? Maybe you have come across somewhere called Stone? Merry |

They were married in the Parish Curch at Monkwearmouth. The groom's address is just Monkwearmouth and hers is Stone or Shore or similar. I think the chances of her living somewhere a long way away before the marriage is very unlikely, so that's why I think it's Shore which is in Monkwearmouth. In any case, it's only the address at the date of the marriage and I have yet to find many rellies who gave a valid address where they had actually laid their heads!! Merry |
