Sue In Yorkshire. Report 30 Dec 2005 19:57

Just checked My tree matches and on 1 twig he comes up 15 times on that name. On another name he comes up 7 times for another twig. Sue ps maybe he is expecting people to answer his query and FOR PEOPLE TO FORGET TO UNTICK the box so it SHOWS THEIR TREES TO HIM. Sue

I'm upset. He's not in my hotmatches. He appears to be about the only GR member who doesn't have an Elizabeth Smith 1858! Perhaps one of you who has had contact with him could suggest an alternative site where he could download this info. Perhaps www. interment.net would be the answer. I guess Christopher has logged names and dates of death or burial in Australia instead of births. I guess he wasn't expecting GR to introduce the curse of Satan (or 'Hotmatches' as they prefer to call it) If I was looking for a death in Perth I'd be overjoyed at finding a miniature version of the NBI. Though I guess I wouldn't know where to find it. Perhaps GR could export the info and place it elsewhere on the site so it could be easily searchable?

At least SOME of his names ARE in a real tree! If you subscribe to Ancestry, search for FLEMING, CHAPPELL, CHAPPLE, FLYMAN. They're all there and are connected. I honestly think C has tried to be helpful. I happen to have a distant rellie who died in Perth in 1949. She's not on this site, but if she had have been on his list, I could possibly have found the info useful. He may very well have connected the names anyway. If I put some effort into it, I could connect the families in various English villages.

EXACTLY Kate!!!!!!!!!! From what he says, it isn't!! Merry

GR don't seem to have addressed the question of whether what he has uploaded is a family tree or not! Kate.

I have actually had some success with Hot matches this month. As I was bored I deleted all my George Cox and James Fraser matches and actually got a match for Thirza Shearn of Farrington Gurney. You can't make that up and found someone distantly related to the same family. She was a great aunt. Personaly I add names when I am reasonably sure they are correct but regard this as a work in progress and make corrections as necessary. If you have a family tree of several hundred people you can't claim sole ownership. I am not sure what we do about the train spotter mentality but am not sure if there is actually a protocul about which relatives to add. When I am contacted by other members I am honest if I think some of my information is a bit dodgy. As to spelling some of my relations seem to use different spellings on different forms.

The only problem I can invisage is if he allowed someone, who didn't understand what he was doing, to have access to his tree and they thought all the people were related....Then copied their branch of his tree believing it to be at least a bearing on the truth, which of course it can't be.....but if he doesn't let people access his tree, I can't see that it can do any harm....maybe waste a lot of people's time, that's all??????? GR will like him as his large tree boosts that 40odd million figure they like to bandie about....... If he resubmits his gedcom a few times (heaven forbid LOL) they will soon reach the next milestone figure.... I wonder if I will ever reach the next letter on hot matches? Will our next hot matches be entirely with ''C''? Merry

I've just got back from shopping and had to see where this thread had got to since last night. So Mr 'C' isn't an abuser, tree thief or a computer hacker then? Personally I think what he is doing is rather pointless but it seems as though he thinks he is doing us all a big favour. I suppose it takes all sorts.

Good morning all, Just to let you know that I received a reply from GR Abuse Administrator this morning 30/12/2005, @ 07: 12: 17 which states:- Thanks for your email. I have looked into this and all that has happened is that this member has added an extremely large gedcom file to the site. the way he has added his names, ie:- with just a letter rather than the name, is up to him. This may be how he refers to any living relations. I can assure you that there is no cause for concern. Regards Abuse Administrator. Personally, I feel this does not address the problem sufficiently as I did also ask GR to take steps to correct the situation and to prevent it happening again. There seems to be no reassurance to do this!! The thread on the General Topics Board covering this subject & created by Georgina Casserly apparently no longer exists!! However, an new thread on the General Topics Board & covering this subject has been created by:- Jean Bonaszak - 30/12/05 @ 10: 01: 37 with the heading :- 'Had a reply from c ' I'm interested to hear your further thoughts and meantime I will give Jean the context of the above GR reply. Still a Concerned User.

I also got a reply today from C, but I have replied saying mine are not in Australia as far as I know anyway, and if there is no mention of family age etc it wont be much help. Thank you for you interest in the names I have on Gens. I have listed a DEATH index for West Australia. Being a death index it does not show. 1)Parents 2)Who they married 3)Where they were born 4)If the Surname is their Married or Maiden Name 5)Children During the next months I will be visiting the Cemeteries in Perth taking photos. If the person listed is part of your family I can try and take a photo for you. Please keeping mind that not all people have graves and not all graves have head stones While searching for my Extended Family lots of people have help me from all over the world with it. This is one way of me returning the help. I hope this explains why your family member is listed. If you require further info please email me the details at “Christopher”

I suppose that's because the burial sites in Oz that he has made a database from, mainly consists of English-sounding names?? It's only because he has SOOOOOOOOOOO many names on it, that many of us are getting all these matches. There's a thought......he doesn't have a place of birth for most entries (understandable, because most gravestones don't say where someone was born...), but also a hell of a lot of gravestones don't indicate WHEN someone was born either......so how come he has a year of birth for everyone? Hope those are not their years of DEATH!!!! Merry

hi merry, I notice on my tree matches, he is only matching the english sounding names, I have a couple of foreign ones and no matches with them. jean

Merry Report 30 Dec 2005 10:53

Yes Jean! Does he make grave number one the child of grave number two and then grave number three the grandparent, regardless of dates, sex, names etc.....??????? Afterall, to upload to GR you have to have everyone joined together....... Merry

Jean

merry, from what he is doing and saying, we are all related to him and each other. jean

I would think his is a standard reply......... I would love to see his tree.......wonder how he makes a database of graves into a tree??? Did you notice his sign off, ''Christopher'' was in inverted commas? merry

Merry Report 30 Dec 2005 10:05

I have had the reply about the deaths index of Western Australia too. I suppose he has made an index of info from graveyard lists and then made them into a tree?? Despite the fact that obviously a whole graveyard are not related???????? LOL I don't see why people should be worried about this exactly......but it is WEIRD!!! Has anyone accidentally given him/her access to their tree and then found he has poached their rellies and added them to his Western Australia database?? Merry
