I am just starting out researching my Father's family.I have traced his mother from birth certificate and 1901 census.and found her parent's names. I found them on 1881 census and am now trying to find their marriage. I found on BMD what may be the marriage but it only has his name Henry Marsh and I tried doing a cross ref by putting her name Eliza and Alderbury June quarter 1877. The name came up but with a different reference does this mean that this is not the correct marriage? Is there any way in which I can cross reference or do i have to take pot luck and buy any marriage certificate for Henry Marsh Wiltshire for a period of several years until I find the right one? Claire do you have her Maiden name Eliza I mean? And is it the Eliza Edwards in 1877 you think maybe her? Zoe

I looked from 1875 to 1878 Henry Marsh Wiltshire. I know his wife's name is Eliza. I found one marriage June 1877 alderbury which is near to Downton Salisbury where they lived. Claire

I am sorry but no I don't have a maiden name.

Claire what I would say do is ask someone to lookup Henry marsh in Jun quarter of 1877 for marriages and see what the page number is. As there should be 4 people on each page but it will have to be a 1837 online lookup unless you have credits-mine have ran out sorry. This will confirm if the transcriber has put the wrong page number or not Zoe x

Hi Clare Normallyon freeBMD you get four people coming up, two brides and two grooms. In this case there is only Henry which means that his bride hasn't been transcribed yet. As you don't know her maiden name, you can't search for her to see if she matches. You can either get the birth certificate of one of their children, this will tell you her maiden name, or you can send for the cert using the refernce from June 1877 but ask that they check that the wifes name is Eliza. I have credits for 1837 online so if I put in June 1877 will I find the name of the wife?

Well just looked at the 1881 census and it seems that the Other 2 people on the Eliza Edwards page married each other but Eliza is missing a spouse this happened to me, when I found out the correct page number I emailed BMD and they changed it as transcribers do make mistakes. Zoe

Claire what I want you to do is goto June 1877 marriages for Henry Marsh and see what the page number is! And we will see if it has been transcribed correctly. Zoe

Claire Dea has looked for you but I would advise you to get one of the childrens birth certs aswell if they had any to ensure you have the correct one Zoe xx
