I couldn't see any Births for Maud or John but then I was only looking on the free sites and they are not complete........have you tried one of the pay-per-view sites that are complete ? Couldn't see John on the 1901 census either - sorry Esta

Esta No i havent. Im just trying to breakthrough a brick wall. My gt grandfather is John Henry Gater born Hampstead, London August 1st 1893 (according to death cert). His wedding cert June 1919 said that he had a father called Frank Gater painter deceased. A witness to the wedding is Francis Gater. When i found (or should i say GR members) found Frank Gater painter/decorator with a son Francis Gater on 1891 census im exploring whether these are my Gt grandfathers father and brother. John Henry Gater has no birth reg, nor on the census! But then again Maud does not appear to have a birth reg either. Marie

if he had another son in 1893 - have you found this child on 1901 ? ( I assumethe mother is not Mary Ann )

Thanks Merry, at least i wont be wondering if the 'Gater' on 1901 website was Francis lol. Esta it says that Mary was still married not a widow. Although if he is who i think he is he was deceased by 1919. However, he did have another son in 1893 (once again if he is the correct Francis). Me starting to think he left his first family Mary etc and perhaps started another family! The tangled webs we weave!

I think the enumerator was getting tired!! He has clearly written Schedule 204, which is part of no 27 Granville Road (there are 4 households at No 27, Halford, Turner, Walker and Gater). Schedule 204 is three people.....Mary Ann (head) and Frank and Maud. Maud's details are on the second to last line of the page. The enumerator has then had to squeeze in two properties which are marked off as unoccupied (No's 29 and 31). He has used the bottom line if the page for No 31, which left him knowhere to write about No 29. So.....he wrote No 29, unoccupied, alongside Maud's name!! Think that's it! Merry

Yep thats them in 1891, i have Francis/Frank in 1861, and 1871 but not on 1881 or 1901.

David I'm looking at the entry on Ancestry ( not the 1901 site ) and as far as I can make out they are all together - no-one else is at 29. the image is a bit confusing as it has correction lines on it.......Maybe some-one else could double check. Esta

Hi Esta Thats correct except Maud is recorded at a different address on 1901 website! Would you know why they have another entry for Gater but no info with it? Have you the facilities to check 29 Granville Road to see whos living there, because when i have tried to do it on the website it is saying no address found! Thanks Marie

Hi Jess its maud gater aged 14 living at 29 Granville road, willesden london. Then there is frank Gater aged 16 bicycle repairer living at 27 Granville Road, Willesden with Mary A Gater. For Mary A Gater it says she is the head but is married (i cant find her husband Frank/francis). Thanks Marie

what is the ref for the 1901 you are talking about? or the names and location if that is easier

Hi all I have just been on 1901 census website to locate some relies. When i asked to view others in household it said error and wouldnt let me view. I then tried another search for this persons brother and found him living with his mother two doors away. This was strange as the person i was initially looking for was only 14yrs old. Then i came across a record of another 'Gater' (family im resaerching) living at same address as the 14yr old but it said the following: Gater, relationship to head null, marriage u, employment undefined. Then when tried to view others it said error! Is it possible that there was an enumerator error and they do all live in the same address, the address was 27 and 29 so quite easy to mistake. Marie (ps I should register an account under my own name and not keep using my husbands as its all my info im putting on here and he never uses the site! But am worried i would lose all info, any tips! Or is there a way to change username)
