Babs, I'd say wait til Wednesday and see exactlyw hat ancestry are adding to the site. My initial reaction would be that 1837 are panicking as before christmas the unlimied offer for three years access was £200 off if I remember rightly (someone correct me here if I'm worng please) Your £50 seems like a good reduction - but I'd hand on and wait for ancestry Zoe |

I'd heard about some people on here being offered 3 years' unlimited lookups for £125, so having been a pretty good customer of 1837 I emailed them to ask if I could have that offer. The miserable so-and-sos wrote back (finally) and said no. I was a bit peeved to say the least, until I saw Zoe's thread (MWAH!) about Ancestry for which I already have a subscription. So I'd definitely wait and see what Ancestry are offering, as it certainly seems like 1837 are panicking lol! Mandy :) |

Zoe sorry just HAD to add you're wrong lol It was 3 yrs for £125 however it didn't include census look ups!! I know of someone who took up the deal but then got a refund as the T & C were too confusing and she didn't get access to half the stuff she wanted!!! |

Also, bear in mind the offer on 'The Genealogist' website of a 'Personal Premium' subscription which includes unlimited BMD lookups at an annual cost of £68.95 (though don't try doing lookups for anybody else if you subscribe to it! - make sure you read the terms and conditions) Yes, it is more than the £50 1837 are offering, but the Personal Premium sub also includes many census indexes and transcriptions and even images, including a lot of counties for 1841 and more are being added all the time, and again you get unlimited access to them included in your Personal Premium sub (as long as you don't do lookups for anybody else). There are also a few other databases such as some parish records etc. included. The BMD database is images of the GRO indexes as on 1837 online but only indexed by first name on page rather than first and last, and the pages take a bit longer to load. We don't know yet whether ancestry is going to offer the actual images or just a transcription of them so I would wait till tomorrow to find out if I were you. Kate. |
