If it's just Henry missing in one census,he may have been elsewhere on the night the census was taken,i have a problem with 2 same names at one address, one visiting, one down as daughter. Strange thing is the further back i go the more they seem to be visiting on census night. |

Dawn in the first box everything gets jumbled with no paragraphing. What you have to do its just put 'see below please' in the first box and then add a reply and set out your message with paragraphing. Have you thought that he may be listed as Harry? Harry is often used for Henry (as in the son they have). On two of the census they are in Port towns - could he be away on a ship? |

How do you know you are following the right one Dawn? You have gone backwards from what solid info? You dont have his marriage cert - so do you have one of the kids birth certs to make sure you have right mum? Is that where you found his occupation as electrician? |

I suppose it may be henry's dad was in the Navy and they are posted elsewhere, abroad even, when he was young. Shame none of the kids arent born before the 1871! |

It may be that you need to get the marriage certificate of Henry and Emily to see who Henrys father was and his occupation. That would help finding him in the 1871-1851 censuses. Electrician was a skilled and very NEW! occupation at that time (to be honest I didnt know they had them back that far!). So dad is likely to have a good skill - but I am still thinking he may be a naval man. So, the marriage was about 1877 probably, yes? Have you looked through the new bmd index now available free on ancestry for a marriage of a Henry Cooper in Hampshire (probably) as the first kiddie is born Hampshire. Although Wilts/Berks may be another area to look at. Just a thought, have you search for a Will for Henry? |
