We often have threads like this, dont worry , sometimes it does make you angry. I for one, NEVER, do a look up if someone doesnt say please in their message. It is just so rude. |

I don't think June really meant that she wouldn't bother looking in future. I've seen her name on the boards for quite a while, and I'm sure she was just 'letting off steam' with this thread. We all need to do that now and again. Kath. x |

It is only a few that don't reply- a few months ago I helped someone from the 'trying to find board' who was searching for her father- I found an address which I e-mailed to her. I didn't hear anything from her until last week- She had made contact with her father and three siblings that she nothing about- she was very thrilled and emailed me to thank me and let me know how it had gone- Kinda makes it all worth while. Please don't be put off helping people by the few, who in their excitment, may forget their manners. Helen |

I'm aware that Genes is an international site and that there are different time zones, but if you put on a request, and want people to help, then they may need to ask for bits of other information to help them to help you. It doesn't hurt to put in your thread 'I'm in New Zealand (or wherever), will look for replies tomorrow'. That way people trying to help are not waiting around for answers from you, and will be quite happy to come back to the thread later. It's when we don't know if you are coming back to the thread today, tomorrow or next year that is the point that June was trying to make in starting this thread. I don't think any of us intended any offence to anyone. Kath. x |

May I please point out that this is NOT just a UK site! This site is international, and therefore we have international time zones. If I were to post an enquiry at 6pm my time (2am UK time) would I expect a reply to my question in the next 15 mins? No! I will go to bed at 11pm (7am UK) and still not expect a reply. I will check the thread 24 hours later. Some people get snarkey at the late response, but, genes is not UK exclusive and members should respect this. Deb |

Its frustrating I know. I have been a member for a year and somtimes cant get in and have only just worked out how to get around. Maybe the operators of the site could do an email when someone replies to the ask, question or request. That may make things a little bit more thankful? Like when someone asks about your tree. |

I use Firefox, which has tabbed browsing, so if there's a thread I'm interested in I just keep it open as a separate tab. Another approach would be to bookmark it. Not rocket science! |

I must say I have only been a member for a month now and only 2 days ago did i discover how to look up threads I started (yes it is obviious when you see it) but some of this site takes a while to work out. Maybe they will pop back later? |

Hi Casiperfect We really don't mind doing lookups for people(I think I can say that for us all here who have posted!) I enjoy doing it because helping others find ancestors also gives you different methods of how you search. And when I go back to my hard to find ancestors I seem to have more luck finding them. So if you do need any lookups all you have to do is ask people those who respond wish to help Regards Zoe |

Hi June, If it was someone new to the site, then maybe he didn't know how to find his old threads, as I've heard other people say this when they are new. Just trying to think the best of him...but I know how anoying it can be to feel you've wasted your time. Maybe he'll read this and realise how it makes people feel. Kath. x |

Hi there I agree it's only good manners to wait and see if people answer your request it does annoy me a little also. And sometimes you get lots of info for people and they just keep asking for the same info from other people on different threads I don't really understand why they do that!~now that's annoying Zoe X |

I know how you feel June. It's one of my bugbears. I know not everyone spends as much time on these boards as some of us, but I always wish that if someone asks a question or asks for a look-up, that they would do it at a time when they can hang around for at least 15 minutes or so. You sometimes need them to reply so that you can get more details to be able to help them. Perhaps they don't realise that on this site most queries get an answer within the first 10 minutes. Perhaps they are used to sites where it takes a lot longer to get a reply. Kath. x |
