'I've checked all the marriages including Liverpool and didn't find a match on BMD with a Priscilla. I'll have another look though.' I presume you mean you did not find a match on FreeBMD if you were searching on the first name. I managed to find the maiden name of someone in my tree yesterday. Luckily she was born in a small village so I looked up all the people called Harriett born in that village on 1851 and 1861 censuses and the IGI. Then worked my way through the full BMD checking each one in the quarter when her husband married. I eventually got a match on Page and Reference numbers. Not conclusive proof without the Marriage Certificate but I think I can be 99% sure that I have found her name. MB

I'm so sorry I haven't replied sooner - had a family crisis yesterday - but thank you to you all for all your hard work, it does look like you found her. I didn't know there was an alternative to BMD for checking marriages etc., so that's another useful piece of advice. I'll order the marriage certificate and hopefully I'll be able to carry on from there. Thank you again all so very much and I'm really sorry I haven't posted a reply sooner Jayne x

Isn't it difficult when they keep spelling the surnames differently? McMahon has now been spelt differently 4 times on the census data and if this is the correct Priscilla then we have various spellings of her surname. I'm glad you lot are here otherwise I'd get nowhere! Jayne x
