I fought against Ancestry for two years I must have been mad ! I also got fed up of the pop ups but finally gave in. And have now joined for my second year. It is BRILLIANTand well worth it. I don't know what I would do without it. Eve

I fiddled around for ages before taking the plunge! The best thing i have done (in the way of family history of course!) Agree about domestic things - unsubtle hints like 'do you know what time it is' and are 'we going to eat tonight?' are often heard in our house since! Just do it!!!! Cheers Allie

I used the free trial and then let it go but have recently rejoined. It is amazingly quick and will also give you a list of other sources. I recently found an ancestor owning a padock in a local trade directory. If you have famous or landed ancestors you will find a lot of details. It is worth putting your dead ancestors names in the one world tree search. I found my grandmother. If you are lucky you can pay about three pounds for 10 credits and this will give you details of the members who submitted the tree and how to contact them. It helps if your ancestors emigrated to America. The research is largely American and of doubtful quality but can be a useful way of contacting lost relatives.

As the others have said it is the best site for research and great value for money, when I first started it was hours at the local record office and more difficult if your ancestors came from out of the area, you wont regret joining and in a few weeks time you will wonder how you managed without Ancestry. I've had a subscription to Ancestry for over two years now, and I wouldn't be without it. For less than £1-50p a week I spend hours on end searching census records and now bmd's and lots of other things. Where else can you get so much for so little? Kath. x

I am becoming increasingly frustrated in my search for relatives and everytime i go on ancestry coming up against the pay screen. Is it worth doing it seems a lot of money- if it is worthwhile i might give it a go or is it like so many others when you get in it isnt all it is cracked up to be. What do others think? i would appreciate your advice. Annette
