Hi Jess Can you try your super sleuthing on these for me. I cannot find any of the 3 of them on the 1861 census and have speculated that they may have gone to Ireland before moving to Lincolnshire. Isabella Whiteside born 1854 Woolwich, I have everything on her from 1871 onwards. her mother is Margaret Oakes born 1827 (nee Wilson/Whiteside) married in Ireland in 1848 to William John Whiteside who died in 1858 in Dover, he was a soldier. Her place of birth varies on censuses from Ireland to Dover. Margaret then remarried in 1859 in Cheriton, Kent to. Samuel Oakes, born Haltham on Bain, Lincs abt 1820. I believe Samuel may also have been in the Royal Artillery. Margaret and Samuel moved to Haltham on Bain and had 3 children together starting in 1865. I have asked about Isabella on threads before but have recently come up with the additional information about her mothers 2nd marriage that might make a difference in the search. Looking for an 1891 look up if you can please, Lilly Louisa Chambers, born 1888 Lincoln Frederick Chambers born 1889 Lincoln Martha Chambers abt 1856 (mother) Lincolnshire George Chambers, father (date unknown)Lincolnshire? Not sure what George did, Have Martha ,Lilly and Frederick in 1901 as visitors in St Mary Le Wigford,Lincoln but no sign of George. Lilly certainly married, lived and died in the same parish. There is a Lilly Chambers of similiar age in Nth Scarle in 1891 with Lewry/Lewary as mother and single with 4 children, but that is a different Lilly. Don't panic for any speed, won't be back till the weekend. 1901 Ref RG13/3062 Lincoln Lincoln Home Folio 27 Page 46 Thanks very much Glen xxx |

Jess, Thanks for doing that for me. I suspect that the younger 'Edwin' listed in 1901(born 1892 approx) is probably my Granddad 'Edward' born 1891. I assume that my great Grandma Mary Ann must have died between 1891 and 1901. My thinking on the Edward/Edwin confusion is that its unlikely that great Granddad would have sent Edward off to live with his uncle, while keeping Edwin (just 1 or 2 yrs younger) at home. Thanks again Jack |

Jess, have just remembered the 1881 will show Daniel seniors birth place. Right, checked same and it was Haydock, Lancashire, so guess your first find is probably the one. Can you provide fuller details from that one when you get a chance? Pity he does not seem to have been with his parents, wonder if they were dead by then. I don't suppose there was an Ann Cook in the house too, or as a neighbour? He married her at the end of Census year. |

I don't know what Ralph's wife was called, assuming he had one. I can ask my dad tomorrow, if he remembers his great-aunt's name. (After all, she would be a sort of alternate grandmother, I suppose) |
