Hi Jess Can you try your super sleuthing on these for me. I cannot find any of the 3 of them on the 1861 census and have speculated that they may have gone to Ireland before moving to Lincolnshire. Isabella Whiteside born 1854 Woolwich, I have everything on her from 1871 onwards. her mother is Margaret Oakes born 1827 (nee Wilson/Whiteside) married in Ireland in 1848 to William John Whiteside who died in 1858 in Dover, he was a soldier. Her place of birth varies on censuses from Ireland to Dover. Margaret then remarried in 1859 in Cheriton, Kent to. Samuel Oakes, born Haltham on Bain, Lincs abt 1820. I believe Samuel may also have been in the Royal Artillery. Margaret and Samuel moved to Haltham on Bain and had 3 children together starting in 1865. I have asked about Isabella on threads before but have recently come up with the additional information about her mothers 2nd marriage that might make a difference in the search. Hi Jess Isabella married William Dawson in 1876 in Haltham, Lincolnshire. Forgot to say Margaret Oakes is a widow again by 1871. Veronica

Jess, thank you very much for trying, I see his wife-to-be does not appear , as you say. As this Daniel then married at end of 1851, had hoped that he and his wife (Ann) and children (including Daniel b c1856) would have still been in Lancashire at 1861 & 71 Census.

Jess, really, really sorry to bother you again but I am a bit confused (nothing new there, many would say!). Regarding Naylor. You have given me your 1851 findings for Daniel before he married and that was very much appreciated. Nothing though on same Daniel and his wife, Ann, and children, (including Daniel jnr born 1856), for 1861and 71 Census. Not quite sure if you couldn't find them in those or if I had confused you by coming back with a query on your 1851 find and so you forgot about the 1861/71 request.

That's great Jess, many thanks. A Miner would fit in with his occupation at 1881 and the childrens names include a few I had thought might belong to them. Mmm, wonder if they had left Lancashire by 1871? I know of at least two sons in Scotland by 1881 (but can't see them there in 1871) and Daniel snr himself in Derbyshire at 1881.

He is widowed by 1881 - appears as Lodger (Head) in New Street, Hasland, Derbyshire RG11/3435 but no others in house. None of their children living with him. One of the children (aged 16) is living with her brother in Scotland by then.

Hi Jess, I'm looking for Frederick James Cowler, before 1871. On that census he was living with his wife Phebe. His surname was spelt Couler on that census. He was born 1845 in Hertfordshire, in 1971 he was a groom. Their children were frederick w cowler 1869 and alice e cowler 1870. They went on to have several more after 1871. It would be great if you could trace Frederick back to when he was living with his parents. Thanks in advance, Gemma
