If someone has the time could you please have a look for a marriage for me? Henry Rowbotham born c. 1838 married to a Letitia on 1881 census living with their 4 children, David, Eliza, Sarah James. David was born 1858 so I'm presuming they got married a year or so before then. He was born in Staffordshire, she was born in Worcestershire but all the kids were born in Staffordshire. I've search FreeBMD but can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Thank you Sara at least it gives me a starting point. I've tried that Heather - didn't get anywhere. I'll have another look tomorrow with 'awake' eyes. Spend far too many hours on the computer since I've started this! Thanks for your help. Jayne x |

Well, if that's them on the 1871 census Sara posted, then he and his family are on a boat called ''Havelock'' It's a 26 ton ''lighter'' vessel, our of the port of Wolverhampton and is employed on ''Inland Trade''. On Census night she was docked at Ellesmere Port. A Lighter vessel is a flat-bottomed canal boat. Merry |

Surely that 1861 is his brother (or relation)?? (John, not Henry??) Merry |

If you are looking on Ancestry, then when you have the census page open, look at the listing at the top (think it's in blue type), something like: Search > Census > UK Census Collection > 1861 England Census > Staffordshire > Leek and Lowe > District 10 (that's just a random one I copied.) What you need to do is remember (write down??!) the ''pathway'' to the page. Then go back to the main search page for Ancestry and go down to the bottom, select the census required. Then go down below the Search boxes and select the county required, then select the town etc in turn. After three or four clicks you will come to a list which includes the District, and in the case of a boat it will be the name of the vessel. Click on the bit that says Description of Enumeration District and you will find out lots of info about your boat/ship!! Merry |

on 1861 census there are alot of Rewbotham and Rewbottom in Kingswinford which is Staffordshire and the next village along from Wordsley. Try all these spellings when you look for his marriage on free BMD. Sara |
