You will need to know the childs/fathers surname, unless the birth was registered under the mother's name. Sam x

You can do it 1911(Q3)-1920 inc. on Family Relatives (pay-per-view) And you can do it after 1983 on Ancestry. Think that's it???? Merry

Hi, thats the problem I dont know who im looking for. My great grandmother abandoned her three children in the 1930's, put two into care and the eldest at her mums. No one knows what happend to her after that. I did start to search all the passenger lists thinking that maybe she emigrated. Then someone said last night maybe she met a new man, and as divorce was difficult perhaps she just took on his name etc. So I started thinking that maybe she had other children in this relationship?

Well, if the parents weren't married when the child was born, the birth would be registered under her maiden name anyway, but assuming they were married, the only way I know of at the moment is if the birth was registered between the end of 1911 and 1920, in which case you can search for it on Family Relatives at www.familyrelatives.org Good luck! Update - now I've read your reply, if she had a child by somebody she wasn't married to, but she was married, they should be registered under her husband's surname but with her maiden name in the 'maiden name' column. Kate.

Merry Report 9 Feb 2006 09:47

Sorry, do you mean Rowena Rancombe is the birth name of your great-grandmother, or is that her first married name? Merry

Willow

Willow Report 9 Feb 2006 09:49

Rancombe is her maiden name. She married Charles Pocock in 1918. But I have looked under both names for deaths and marriages. I have sent of for a few of the death certs after 1984 that I think you gave me a few days back Merry.

Did I?? LOL Short memory here! Is that Rowena, born in 1896?? I just had a look for all Rowena's (any surname) who died after 1983 to see if there were any with a date of birth given (dob given on the death entry, I mean) that would fit with the Q4 1896 birth registration. None looked likely - do you have her exact date of birth? The trouble with this is, you never know if someone is going to give the correct date of birth for the dec'd, when they register the death!! OH- Just READ your last message properly!! Maybe this is what we were doing last time?? Merry

Hi no no exact, its in the oct quarter of 1897 sorry its 1896, dont know why i keep putting 97.

Willow

Willow Report 9 Feb 2006 10:02

You gave me about half a dozen or so possible deaths after 1984 that matched the first name. I have sent of for a couple of them, but I dont hold out much hope.

Oh, not this one then? Name: Rancombe, Rowena Record Type: Births Quarter: December Year: 1896 District: Bedwelty County: Monmouthshire Volume: 11a Page: 90 ??? Can't see one in 1897! These are the deaths I found: Rowena Maud Berrisford Jul 1990 2 Aug 1896 Sheffield South Yorkshire Margaret Rowena Kruger Mar 1988 3 Dec 1896 Thanet Kent Edith Rowena Meaker Oct 1986 10 Jun 1896 Gloucester Gloucestershire Rowena Tickle Feb 1988 11 Jun 1896 Launceston Cornwall Minnie Rowena A Willington Sep 1986 27 Aug 1896 Hammersmith Greater London Most would not have had their birth's reg in Q4. If it was 1897 for birth, here are the death matches for that year: Rowena Violet Bligh Mar 1989 1 Sep 1897 Ipswich Suffolk Jasmine Rowena Clayton Jan 1989 1897 Chichester West Sussex Rowena Alice Gundle Dec 1985 11 Jun 1897 Hove East Sussex Rowena Harris Apr 1984 17 Nov 1897 Central Cleveland Cleveland Florence Rowena Prior Dec 1988 20 Mar 1897 Waveney Suffolk Kate Rowena G Tutte Jan 1993 7 Apr 1897 Preston and South Ribble Lancashire Mary Rowena Voyle Jan 1985 30 May 1897 South Pembrokeshire Dyfed Rowena Whitelock Dec 1984 27 Nov 1897 Neath West Glamorgan Could she be the last one?? Yeah it is 1896, keep putting 1897 for some reason. The last one is one of the ones that I have sent off for.
