If you have the reference - which you did - you tick the little box asking if you have it. Then you just do the year of the event and it goes to the bit which you got confused about asking names etc. As you have the reference you can ignore all that and just go to the bit where you complete the details you were given for him. It should then tell you you have ordered 1 certificate for £7? You then submit and do your card details. Did you keep a copy of the Order completion? It should give you a ref and if you think you paid too much, you can ring them up?

You do need to make sure you've ticked the button which says you know the ref - otherwise it can lead you down a whole lot of questions you don't need - and you end being charged £11.50 Christine

I guess you figured it out, but just to tell you. With the exception of relatively recent registrations, all you need to order a birth, marriage, or death certificate is: First name Surname Year and quarter of registration District Volume Page HTH.

Julie If your using the GRO website, you don't need the DoB. You only need to put in the information if there is a red star in the line of text anything else is a bonus and used as a check to confirm that is the certificate you want. You should only need to put in the name, Quarter, District name, Volume Number, Page Number.
