Stop creeping away Merry, you will listen! I found a Mary Ann Hanson dying I think Shoreditch in old age, but then a bit of trawling showed she was in census all the way with a William Hanson as hubby. I have found a Mary Ann Hanson dying 1864 - I think I am going to have to take a chance on that one. |

James Hanson marries Mary Ann Wyles 1853 Whitechapel 1861 census: Mary Ann and youngest son James born April 1860 is missing. Other son is with grandparents. James is at his workshop with 2 little girls, Catherine and Mary Ann. HANSON, James Wm Head Married M 29 Cabinet Carver Employing 1... Shadwell Middlesex HANSON, Mary Ann Daughter Unmarried F 7 Scholar Shoreditch HANSON, Catherine Daughter F 8 Scholar Shoreditch V --------------------------------------------- 1871 No sign of Mary Ann Hanson or the two little girls and James has a 'housekeeper' living with him with a daughter called Phoebe who is most likely hers(same name). James is shown as married. The 'housekeeper' Phoebe Pearce is shown as unmarried. 1871 census: Daniel Hanson 4 Newington Son St Mary Newington London James Hanson 39 Shadwell Head St Mary Newington London James Hanson 10 Shadwell St Mary Newington London Phoebe Hanson 6 Newington Daughter St Mary Newington London William Hanson 12 Shadwell Son St Mary Newington London Phoebe Pearce 22 Bethural Green Housekeeper St Mary Newington So, does this mean that Mary Ann Hanson was still alive? I have trawled for a death in right time and area with no luck so far. But James has already shacked up with someone else? |

Sorry, I was tangenting with Val. 1. Jess wanted to know if Thomas Jenkins was goodlooking and if he was available and I said only if she dug him up - hence the shovel comment. 2. Mary Ann Hanson was the subject of a thread which went totally dead when everyone realised it was a bloody Berlin wall, as opposed to the small garden wall people often have on here. |

Have you noticed that all the threads Val starts go off at a tangent? |

Heather | Report | 14 Feb 2006 22:26 |
I dont know, I reckon that the meaning of the word has changed since back then. Asylum means loony bin to us, might have have much wider use, like institution but meaning a place of learning. |
