hi iam have bin looking on the censuses and i cant find my family...i am after a Florence Ann Simcock born june 1877 Norton , mother Mary formerly Handley, father Joseph coal miner. cant find her on a census..thought i had but name came up as just ann...any suggestions

There are at least 10 places called Norton - which one? (27 if you include the ones called Norton something!!) Merry

The name given on the census may not be the official name as given on certificates. If her 'official' name was Florence Ann but everybody called her Ann, it could well say just Ann on the census. So the one you have found could well be her anyway! Kate.

yes its in leek, thats our name and we live here too...thats confussing when u are filling out forms they always thick you have made a mistake...i also wthought they may have dropped her first name.

many thanks to all mission was completed. anyone fancy another....this one is for my wifes side ...looking for her grt grandmas family name Leah Bowyer (hammond, then bowcock) born 1885 in leek staffordshire, (have ordered cert but she cany wait that long) Leahs fathers name was James Bowyer..have looked on census found him i think in 1851, 1861 lost afterwards born 1849 give or take, was married to an elizabeth..can anyone find them on the other census?
