I have found my relative Samuel Bunting on the 1871-1901 census. I have also found all 3 of his marriages - Mary Burgess 1855 / Elizabeth Wood 1861-65 / Emmett Wilson 1871-75. But i can't find him anyway other than that though. He isn't on 1851/61 census although his wife and children are on the 61 census living with her parents! I can't find his birth details or 1851/1861 census returns.Could anyone help??

What was his occupation? maybe he was at sea? Which area?

Juliana I hope you don't mind me saying this; but a couple of days ago, a few of us did quite a lot of research for you vis-a-vis your family. We asked a few questions of you, in the hope of helping you further, but you never actually came back to the board. It can be rather frustrating, that's all. Suzy

I was actually in hospital which is why I wasnt on the board after 4.30. I did post a message saying thank you for all your help.

sorry carrie, he was from stockport, cheshire. he was a cotton thread manufactor and owned a mill in stockport. i have thought about him being abroad as there is talk of him possibly having roots in ireland. it just seems weird that i can't find his birth! x

He probably was away as Cotton was Booming at that time and many owners went abroad to sell and get buyers, its also possible he wasn't actually born in cheshire but bought up there, many made that mistake years back . Who were his parents?

Can't find Julia in 1861....

This is what I have from the 1871 census. However, Elizabeth is his second wife, they married between 1861 and 1865 and Julia is actually her daughter from her first marriage! Martha and Sarah and definately Samuel and Mary's children, I'm not sure about Emma. I think Sarah is probably Elizabeths, given the gap in ages.

Thanks for that Carrie. I imagine he probably was away for 1861 census. But I dont know if he would have been old enough in 1851?? It probable that he wasnt born in Cheshire as well! I wish they did the census properly, so it was easier for us, hee hee! x

Who were his parents?

On Samuel's marriage cert. his parents are recorded as William and Martha.

Thats unsusal they don't normally have mothers name on marriage certificates? what was his fathers occ and who were witness's maybe it was a sibling of he's that could help find the family. and is it the same occupation for his Dad on ALL certificates?

Hi Carrie that piece of info was given to me, maybe that was a mistake also. think i've come to a bit of a dead end with finding this man! going to see if i can hunt out the 1841 census returns. thank you for your help, it's really appreciated. x
