I googled Gill geneology and came up with several sites. It says Gill is derived from french for William so know idea if the families are connected. I could not find any links to Isle of man but it might be worth visiting and posting a querry. |

Well I've just done a search on 1901census and there are plenty of Mary Kewley's but no Harriet Kewleys. Doing some more combination searches shows that unless a death occured before 1901 then it looks like Harriet Ann Allen married Edward Caesar Gill. My last session ran out the other day and I don't have that many searches to do to warrent opening another one just yet. Do you all think the same as me or am I missing something and just taking things for granted? |

Can anyone tell who Edward Caesar Gill from West Derby married in 1976. Why does ancestry sometimes show 'Find spouse' option and other times doesn't? |

Right, something new has cropped up since last posting on here. Someone mentioned that the name Caesar appears in the Gill names from IoM. I have spoken to my father and he tells me that there have been or there was someone with the name Caesar in my family. So knowing this, how common is the name Caesar and if it isn't very common then can that help us link the IoM family and my West Derby, Liverpool family together? |

Glad to be able to clarify it for you. Most of my family are from West Derby - Liverpool. |

Sorry didn't realise west derby was part of liverpool. I was born in derby, my dad was born in derby and his dad is either derby or liverpool, from then on its liverpool. I did do a search on one of the sites and there was a John Thomas and an Annie married in Huddersfield. Think her name was Annie Sheard. That got me confused a little as it was the only pair appearing together. Sorry if thats irrelavent |

Ian - quick question. When you say that your family was from Derby do you mean West Derby as in the Liverpool district or Derby as in Derbyshire. The family that has been found appears to be Liverpool. Just trying to make the distinction to avoid any confusion. Booklady |

I'll wait until my dad logs in and try and get some more details from him. He told me some earlier but I was a little side tracked. |

Ian I'm not sure it would be that one as that would make JOhn only 15 when he married. We've not linked back to IoM yet - but with so many Gill's it's gonna be quite difficult without knowing John and Annie's fathers names so we can pinpoint them in 1901. Definitely need a certificate on this one Z |

Moe, its more likely to be: john thomas J gill west derby sept 1900 8b 357(transcribed as 8h but should be 8b) this one as my dad said he was quite young when he met him. |
