thought I remembered the names from ian's thread about thother bit of his family: Ronald Gill was born 30 Nov 1924 which gives three possibilities on ancestry BETA Mothers maiden name = Hart (W derby), Gill (Bradford) or Smith (Hammersmith) |

Zoe, on your thread before you mentioned that Gill could also be Gell.On Family search both these names are well established on the island Gell dating back over 150 years, do you think that was just a wierd coincidence?,,,,,,MOE! |

Moe I thought enough of the names and ages matched to make it likely that the enumerator was so up to his ears in Gill's and Gell's he put the name down wrong - i could be mistaken tho - I'm willing to be corrected Zoe |

Got the b*ggers (sorry Ian - thought I was on a wild goose then) 1916 March quarter John T gill to Annie Hart - W Derby - 8b 561 which would fit with your birth being the W Derby one in 1924 |

Wow, things have moved on here. My immediate family, father, uncles and grandparents all lived in derby so its a good chance that John Thomas Gills wife was the one from Derby. All these names and dates have got me confused though. With the extra information of my immediate family living in Derby how does this make the tree and link to the IoM. In fact have they linked. I'm dyslexic so without them neatly written in front of me I struggle to piece them together. Although I'm off to write them all down. :D |

Moe, its more likely to be: john thomas J gill west derby sept 1900 8b 357(transcribed as 8h but should be 8b) this one as my dad said he was quite young when he met him. |

Zoe | Report | 20 Feb 2006 20:33 |
Ian I'm not sure it would be that one as that would make JOhn only 15 when he married. We've not linked back to IoM yet - but with so many Gill's it's gonna be quite difficult without knowing John and Annie's fathers names so we can pinpoint them in 1901. Definitely need a certificate on this one Z |

I'll wait until my dad logs in and try and get some more details from him. He told me some earlier but I was a little side tracked. |

Ian - quick question. When you say that your family was from Derby do you mean West Derby as in the Liverpool district or Derby as in Derbyshire. The family that has been found appears to be Liverpool. Just trying to make the distinction to avoid any confusion. Booklady |

Sorry didn't realise west derby was part of liverpool. I was born in derby, my dad was born in derby and his dad is either derby or liverpool, from then on its liverpool. I did do a search on one of the sites and there was a John Thomas and an Annie married in Huddersfield. Think her name was Annie Sheard. That got me confused a little as it was the only pair appearing together. Sorry if thats irrelavent |

Glad to be able to clarify it for you. Most of my family are from West Derby - Liverpool. |

Right, something new has cropped up since last posting on here. Someone mentioned that the name Caesar appears in the Gill names from IoM. I have spoken to my father and he tells me that there have been or there was someone with the name Caesar in my family. So knowing this, how common is the name Caesar and if it isn't very common then can that help us link the IoM family and my West Derby, Liverpool family together? |
