Merry, try using streetmap.co.uk it's much easier than struggling with the atlas especially if youhave a plate of pancakes on your lap!

Oh, I know the answer to that one........ Go to wall behind 'puter......switch off wall socket and remove plug. Any other wires joining 'puter to wall.....remove. Take 'puter, screen, keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner, sweet wrappers, plates, mugs and other rubbish and put all into a LARGE cardboard box. Take box and put in car boot. Drive to local tip. Put in skip. There......all your problems dealt with in one go..... Merry

Hiya Merry, glad I'm not the only one having rpobs with the syustem. try this one for size. *waves to Allan* Hows you hon. Long time no see. Looking up info on my tree for a particular relly (Donald McGregor), I noticed he didn't have a country of birth added in (he was one of the peeps tranferred from old tree system). So , being a conscientious tree keeper I added Scotland. Clicked on enter, and what happened???? Scotland was added as country of birth. His wife (Janet Fisher) also had her name changed to Donald McGregor. So Donald was married to Donald. When I clicked on wifes name she once again became Janet Fisher..................but was married to Janet Fisher. So here I have Janet Fisher, father Donald Fisher, mother Christian Campbell, spouse Janet Fisher. Thinking I was clever, I changed spouse back to Donald McGregor. Again hit enter, and I now have Donald McGregor, father Donald Fisher, mother Christian Campbell, sister Janet fisher spouse Janet Fisher. Click on spouse and I have Janet Fisher father Donald Fisher mother Christian Campbell brother Donald McGregor spouse Donald McGregor. I've deleted as many of the family I can in order to change things, but the system won't let me delete any of the remaining peeps. How on earth do I fix this one???? Rebs xx

Can I suggest you take a backup.Use the Import/Export tree gizmo on the left and export your tree. It will send you an email with a gedcom file in it. Then at least you can get back to where you are now if you have a problem. If you have another package on your PC, have a go at loading the gedcom into that to see that it's not damaged. Do you really have 2500 people or was that an exaggeration??? If you do have that many, then you might be pushing the limits of this site and/or your PC. The fact that the towns drop-down is missing loads of huge towns really bugs me too, but it always lets me leave it blank. Make sure you change it back to 'Select a Town' or whatever before you try to save. The fact that you have to enter a year bugs me too. I'd like to have a second option tickbox like 'c- circa'. How about 'nac- for not a clue' or 'ygiagam- for your guess is as good as mine' Alan

merry what tosh even in a foul mood your still sweet and nice so there :-p Vicky i aggree this site need a compleat re build but its never gonna happen. you think ITV would spend 10k to rebuild it not a hope in **** and they have put the renual price up, 2 months in charge and they want more profit as if £6.8 million last year was to little. Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble Merry. I was going to upload a new tree as the one on here is not as complete as it could be. However ....... I don't think I'll bother just yet, I'n not in a particularly patient mood and it sounds like far too much hassle! I'll mebbe just add the new bits myself.

Thanks Kim! Everyone on my home tree has some sort of birth date. I accept GR might refuse to recognise some types of date, but mine are rejected randomly amongst the dates that are entered in full, ie dd/mm/yyyy Mystery?? Vicky, pass the bottle please! Merry When you upload your tree, if the dates you have are Baptism's, GR system does not recodnise these, so no date appears. I have a seperate GR copy, so there are no baptism's, I put them in as birth dates instead, it is a pain when you have to put the stuff in twice, but then I get no errors from GR (as I still can't make head nor tail of their tree system!!) Vicky, Thankyou, I am strating to sound like some of those threads on here that don't sound believable! I see the red **'s and so each time I get to the end of the red *'s boxes I click to save the details......about ¼ of the time it insists on the next two boxes.....the rest of the time it is happy, but I can't see any difference between the accepted record and the one's it doesn't like. Then, again........it tells me a mother cannot have a birth year making her younger than her child. The reason is that the child has no birth year. Fair enough. Add a rough year for the child - I can then add a year for the mum. But it's very strange that the dad is allowed to have his year, right from the start!! Another bit of the family, it's the dad who's birth year is missing, the error message says it's for the same reason....................................... One very very very expensive bottle of orkney 25yr old single malt on it way hun. I think the prob is this site it needs a total re build, and its bandwidth increased, it just cant cope with the traffic, infact, no i aint going there Steve

Merry, I'm not sure what's going on here ... better have another large drink (would you like some ice for that?) ... I last imported a gedcom about 2 months ago, I'm assuming GR haven't altered things at their end since. I have some also with missing year of birth. This is probably because FTM lets you put in an incomplete date - Feb 1861 or whatever. I see some of these in the DOB field in my tree on here, and these are OK as long as you don't try to edit it. (Then it tells you the date is missing...) As for place, on here I have loads with a village name in the first box, that just says ''place of birth''. There is nothing in the country, county or town boxes. If I want to amend something, I have to put in a country, but I can leave the rest blank. (There's a red asterisk next to the boxes you HAVE to fill in)
