I am looking for a Ellen Margaret Slater born c1905 and I have been trawling through the birth records. I have found quite a few Ellen Slaters but were middle names always included on the record or is it possible that they have been left off??? Any advice greatly appreciated! |

It should have her middle name or at least her middle initial on the birth register, unless of course she added the Margaret to her name in later life for some reason! Kate. |

I'm not looking in a particular area as I'm not certain on where she was born! I'm guessing around the London area. If the middle names are always included on the record then I thought it would be easier to narrow it down. But if it turns out that they weren't always put on I'm back to square one! I have been looking on the ancestry website |

Yes, they were always put on, unless as I said, she didn't have the middle name when her birth was registered but added it later. Kate. |

You may wish to use the familyrelatives.org pay to view site where you can enter the name (only use ONE first name) and a time span and bring up every match. It may be she wasnt born in the London area at all. |

Laura Do you know her parents names, and whether she is the oldest child or not. It might be possible to find them on the 1901 Census, then you should be able to narrow the area down a bit. Just a thought. Looby |

Did she marry? - and if so do you have the marriage cert for her - this would at least give you her fathers name. Looby |

I've looked from 1903 to 1907 and not found her. Are you sure the name is Ellen Margaret, as I have found a Margaret Ellen in 1907:- Margaret Ellen Slater, Dec. qtr. 1907, Newport P., 3a, 970 Thought it was worth mentioning as you haven't found the name the other way round. Kath. x |

Laura Just did a people search on here, and there are several Ellen Slater's born 1903-1907 but one other born 1905 without a birthplace - might be worth messaging in the hope there might be a connection. Regards Looby |

Hi Laura. Just had a thought. A relative told me that his mother had another name (or her parents did) when she was baptised and from then on she was known by the christian name rather than the given name. In your case then Margaret may be worth persuing a bit. Just a thought. Roger GC |
