Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 10 Mar 2006 11:59

I feel sorry for the postman, all this attention and fuss, what will they think when the rush is over? No more glancing down the road looking for him,no more doors opening in anticipation, the poor chaps. Please order more certs your postman needs you. (semi joking by the way) Glen

I sent for two certificates in late February... ish. Only hope they don't come second class mail to Australia as that means a very slow boat and a very long wait. Cheers Gerry

All the certs I have ordered lately from GRO have been delivered long after the allocated despatch date. I wonder if the govenment would be so understanding if we were so late with our tax payments as they are providing our certificates. It is fraud really because they promise something that they do not provide. Lucky we are all so nice people that we are not getting so uptight about it. My ancestors have been dead many many years so a few more days wait will not make a lot of difference but I just cannot wait to get my certificates. Good luck to you all. Irene

I ordered a death certificate on 19th Feb, despatch date was 2nd March, it arrived yesterday 9the March - the copy was dated 7th March, and it was posted on the 8th second class, these dates may help those waiting for certs to arrive.

Hi Sharon, I don't order on line as I prefer to phone Southport and speak to some one. Did this yesterday, had a long chat with very nice lady, who said that they were run off their feet with calls so my cert could take at least 2 weeks. Usually they are here in a week. As its a 108 years since the person was born I think another two weeks wont hurt. Ann

Im glad I started this when my dear dad was still alive. I can still see the look on his face when I gave him a tree last year and he put on his glasses and kept saying 'Well, blow me' as he looked at it all. When he died in October, we went to clear his house and there was the tree, next to his chair, so well worn and fingered bless him, he must have looked at it over and over. Since then Ive found so much more Id like to tell him, but at least he had the pleasure of that early work.

Clare It was probably your gran dying that spurred you as much as anything. My dad died last year and I am really sad that I have only just found his grandparents (he didn't even know theiir names). If I 'd have known he was going to die I would have started earlier. he would have loved it. Somehow it is therapeutic. So I'll let you off then!!! Chris

Shall I hang my head in shame for it was the TV prog which finally got me to get my big bum in gear & get started? For years we'd talked about doing the family history but well when gran died last year & with the TV prog stirring up my enthusiasm I've got going, only wish I'd started while gran was still here. Got back to late 1700 in 5 weeks now need those certs!!!

Have just been on phone chasing up my certificate that should have been dispatched on 3rd March. Very helpful lady said that they are still working on orders that should have been dispatched on 2nd. Apparently they have taken on more casual staff and are now working 24 hours.
