I recently found a pair of 3-greats grandparents where the wife was sixteen years older than her husband. Just wondering if anyone here can beat that? Andrew. |

Hi, My great x3 grandmother was 18 years older than her second husband - she was 41 when they married in 1849 within a year of her being widowed and he died 4 years later. I assume it was a business arrangement as both her first husband (my 3x great grandfather) and he were both bakers. She was left with 6 children aged 12 years and under from the first marriage .... so not sure whether its tut! tut! or needs must!! Caroline |

I don't know, but the 40 years younger wife I mentioned earlier, was a servant in the household of her hubby before they married. I bet they had to get a whole new batch of servants when she married, as they wouldn't have wanted to be taking orders from the parlourmaid!! Merry |

I can manage it the other way round - young enough to be his daughter. Two years after my GGrandma died, GGrandad married a lady 20 years younger than him. Then to keep it in the family his second wife's brother married GGrandad's second youngest daughter. Must have been a bit tricky being a stepmother and a sister in law at the same time! Mind boggles at what the relationship would have been if the stepmother then had children by her sister in law's father. I'm sure someone will tell me,lol! Cherry |
