I have a HP all in one but as I dont need the Fax anymore and I am sure this printer is the cause of my problems sometimes on my PC , I am going to buy a new one I just want a basic Printer Scanner Copier which uses cheaper Ink Cartridges than this one . Any suggestions, and not rude ones thanks .

Epson printers are very good and the inks can be got cheap from computer markets,even chipped ink

excuse my ignorance but what is chipped Ink ???

It has a little microchip on the back-I've only ever had an Epson,so only ever had chipped ink!!

Everyone has beaten me to the punch. It is worth paying a little more for the printer to make sure the ink cartidges are cheaper! A lesson I learned AFTER I got mine. it costs me an arm and a leg to replace mine although I am going to investigate cheaper alternatives. But I am sure a reputable dealer will be able to tell you what will be your best and cheapest in the long-run bet. Victoria

Just don't by a Lexmark,the inks are dearer than a new printer!!!

We've got a Hp Deskjet 3820. It's a good printer with black & colour ink and doesn't have a scanner etc. It cost around £70 about 3 years ago. We print our photos through Photobox, however if we do print our own they are always of excellent quality. We have a shop near us called Ink Express. I'm sure that they have branches all over the country. Try a google search to find your nearest. They refill cartridges at a fraction of the cost of new ones. There are other companies who do the same.

Valerie I can also recommend Epson. If you have a look at websites like Comet, Argos. Currys or PC World, just to see what Epson printers they have, and then go to a site like www.inkfactory(.)com, you will be able to look and see if they sell alternative ink cartridges for the printer you have your eye on. As someone has already said, you may have to pay slightly more for a printer that will take cheaper cartridges, but it is well worth it in the long run. The 'chipped' cartridges have a silicone chip imbedded which prevent you using anything but the manufacturers own cartridges, which as you know, cost a lot more than other makes. Tina

It might be worth looking in your local paper for a computer market near you when you have decide what you want,a brand new photo quality Epson can be got for about £45-60,obviously it'll be different for a copier/scanner depending on the dpi

thank you very much for your suggestions , and not rude either, I will look into the Epsom ones I think , especially if the Ink cartridges are cheaper this one is ridiculous and with all the printing I am doing now they only last about 2 weeks . Val, Ive got an HP Deskjet 840c - its never let me down, does colour photo quality and I buy my ink through Viking online which tells you which of their own is compatible with HP. I usually wait til they have a 3 for price of 2 offer. Id like to get a multi function machine though, phone, printer, fax and scanner.

Heather you can have mine if you want it does Fax/Copying/Scanning/and has a slot for Downloading your memory card , which I might add I have never used.

Doesn't 'flatbed' refer to scanners? A flatbed scanner is one like a small photocopier, instead of one in a printer combination.

Hi Valerie, The last printer I bought was an EPSON CX6600. Ptinter/copier/scanner. Brilliant, can't fault it. I don't think Epson cartridges are the cheapest, but certainly not the dearest. One tip for anyone with Epson - buy your cartridges on-line direct from Epsom! Amazingly, it's the cheapest way I've found to buy them - and they usually come by return of post! Debbie
