I know this is a long time ago. In the 1841 Census it just indicates Philip Cornell was not born in Hertfordshire. He was born in Suffolk

Thanks All Interesting that there are some Cornells in Limerick. Another suggestion was that it came from O;Connell, but I think that's less likely. My mother is Irish and she traces her family tree back to England so the Cornells might be the same. Alan

No, if you look carefully at the 1841 there is a column for Scotland, Ireland or foreign parts, but I thought they were supposed to put an S for Scotland, I for Ireland and something else, can't remember what, for foreign parts, so usually at least you know which it is! Kate.

I'm confused. 1841 will only say whether he was born in or out of the county in which he was for the census. details from what marriage? to whom? when and where? nell

In 1841 my gggg-grandfather Philip Cornell (c1775) stated that he was born in Scotland, Ireland or Foreign parts. His age was down as 66, they normally rounded to 5 years, but not in Benington Hertfordshire where he was at the time. I've had a look for him in 1851, but not found him yet. Probably for obvious reasons.... I'm getting the details on the marriage from the Parish Records. Any other hints/tips about finding where he came from??? Alan
