Are you looking for ancestors that disappeared from villages in Wiltshire in the late 19th and early 20th century. Then consider looking to the Falkland Islands, Chile and Argentina. A member of the Waldron family from Ramsbury decided to emigrate via the Falklands, to Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia and took with him a number of workers from these villages to sheep and cattle farm. Other names settled in these areas include Fisher, Scott, Rudd, Wood, Grienshield, Hamilton, Saunders, Reynards, Jamieson, MacGeorge, MacClain, Felton, Johnson, Woodman, Redman, Smith, Douglas, Ness and Townsend. I still haven't found any of my Waldron ancestors in this way or been able to prove a family myth that my Looker from Chisledon went to South America. |
