Hi Elizabeth, If you have time, could you do an 1851 census look-up for me? My GG grandfather's sister Elizabeth Ellen Mallett married a John Brookes. I've found plenty of information about her, but nothing at all about John. Elizabeth Mallett (or Mallet) was born at Dosthill, Warwickshire or Tamworth, Staffordshire in 1820. She married John Brookes at St. Mary's, Stafford, on 23/11/1842. I don't know whether they had any children - she wasn't living with any children at the time of the 1861 census. By 1861 she was a widow, and living at 86 Edward Street, Birmingham, and she married again later. I haven't found any birth or death entries for John, so I don't know if he was alive at the time of the 1851 census. I've had a look at the FreeCen site, but I haven't found them. |

Thanks Elizabeth Thats them alright and sorry for being so dumb as to think Kate and John would be on there. They were hawkers. I just wonder why John was listed as Ralphs son on the 1881 Census and why Ralph snr isnt on the 1881 Census, I suppose being Hawkers maybe he was selling his wares somewhere. Thanks heaps for doing this for me, its putting 2 and 2 together now Linda |

Hi I would love you to look up the 1891 Census for Marshall Family they seem to be originally from Durham Ralph Marshall dob 1853 Head Mary Marshall dob 1857 Wife (from Ireland) Children Mary E Marshall 1879 Thomas Marshall 1877 John Morgan 1871 (he may be living elsewhere now but he was listed on the 1881 census as a son) And what Im hoping you will find on the 1991 census to cement my find are also children Ralph 1887 Kate 1893 John 1895 Thats all I know of. I have found the family on the English 1881 Census and then on the Scottish 1901 Census. Im curious as to when they actually came to Scotland. Thomas marshall 1877 was my grandfather and I cant seem to find anything else about him but Im very new to this and I am getting very excited about my find so far so I will keep on with the hard slog Thanks in advance Linda |
