I've imported many times, but never exported. From these boards the answer seems to be 'How long is a piece of string?' It's probably extra busy with people downloading for Tribal Pages! Linda PS Have you noticed that seem to be an awful lot of Linda's on this board?! |

If you said you want to keep it private, your names will not be searchable. So nobody will know about your tree. However anyone can get into it iand look f they know your User ID for Tribal Pages. (or mis-type someone else's!) Once your tree is loaded, go into Edit mode -: Click on Edit and then put in your password Click on Tools Click on Preferences Click on Web Site Settings In here you can set a password for people to view your tree. Make it different to your Administrator password! Click on sign out You then get the password box and will have to enter your visitor password to view your tree L |

Can I ask a question? I have just started to export my tree to tribal but am I correct in saying that I have to set another password so it is not public or is that what I did when I signed up & said i wanted to keep it private????????? Thanking you Lorraine |

The best thing to do is have a look: http://www.tribalpages(.)com/ It explains itself on the home page. If you put a tree up, you can choose whether to make your names public or not. If they are public, the names can be searched by anyone. If you set the vistor password for your tree, people will only be able to tell that a person is in your tree, but can't look at it until they have contacted you and asked nicely to see your tree. Another tribal pages convert! I've got my tree (password protected) on there and just contacted my living rellies with PCs so that they can look. It's easier than posting wadges of paper from time to time. Especially as I have one very interested rellie in the USA and another in Tenerife! I'll still maintain the GR one (I upload GEDCOM from my FTM from time to time) as it's a good way of finding other similar trees. L |

Sorry - I think I have found out how to do it by trawling through the tribalpages site. That'll teach me to look first! If I get any problems, I might be back for some advice. |

When the email arrives you will open it, Maybe it will come as an attachment. When you try to open the Gedcom File it will say you need to start a new PAF File. Just click yes, give it a Title and away you go. Then you can also import your current Tree into the same programme. If you know that the new info contains a previously unknown parent or child you go to the one you know, click on Add child or whatever, then click on existing individual. You will then get the Search list. Find the new individual you want to add and click on it. That should transfer over all the linked people in both the Trees, although sometimes you may have to go to Match and Merge in the Tools Menu and tidy it up. A word of caution with Match/Merge on PAF. There is no 'Undo' option so be sure you are joining truly matched individuals. |

Lesley, it isnt that complicated as long as GRs export/import facility is working properly. Just click on the link Import/Export Tree on the green margin towards the bottom and follow the instructions. |
