Tribal pages gives you the option of a directory listing. If you don't want your site listed it will be private and can only be viewed by invatation if you opt for a listing the matching will be by date of birth and death. Matching trees are visible when you log in to enter your own site. If you go to the site you can view some specimen trees including one for the British royal family which is used as a tutorial to see what is possible. You can add photographs 60 for the free version and about 200 for the basic paid version. When you go to your site you will get a slide show of about 12 random photos. You can choose to hide living people. You have the option to add a short introduction about your family to your home page and you get a visitors book and web counter. It also allows cousin marriages or other odd relationships. I have brother and sister marrying brother and sister. You need the paid version to download gedcoms or print family trees. Anne |

I have wondered about upgrading my basic free Tribalpages membership for the sake of printing a wider range of charts - I particularly like the fan charts. Does anyone have a view on the value of this (a little over £10 pa - which is bugger all really) and the quality of the reports produced? |

The free version lets you upload about 50 photos. The midrange version allows you about 200. (about £12 a year). It also allows you to print various displays of your family tree and export your gedcom. You can only upload photos as J. pegs so if you have something in a different format which you want to add open it in a programe like paint and save it as a J.peg. |

A gedcom is what you get if you download your tree from here. They will E. mail it to you as Smithfamily ged. and you need to save it to your computer. HTML is a code tribal pages and other web sites use to edit text. It can be downloaded from a more sophisticated programme such as family tree maker. You can also build a tree from scratch and add the prompts like <p>. for new paragraph. The double password works. If you go to the site and enter your password you can sign in to edit the tree add photos etc. If you give someone else the other password or use it yourself you can see the site or sign the guestbook but not alter the tree. You don't have to have a second password if you don't want to keep your tree private. You can put a password hint on your home page if you want to. Tribal pages has a rudimentary search facility and people can E.mail you and ask to see your tree but it only matches by name. |

I'm defiantely going to try tribal pages, but can i just say gencirces is a nightmare. The site seems to have been frozen for about two weeks, I have been trying to delete a gedcom since the 19th may, every time it says its deleted and will take a few minutes to be removed and its still not gone. I'm very frustrated esp as there is no online help to contact! |
