Hi Linda, It is possible to have 2 daughters named Mary, when trying to find my Father-in-law's mother on the BMD, we found that she was registered as Mary Winifrid and her sister as Mary Gertrude! Neither was known as Mary, I think that it might be a Catholic thing. Lynn : ) |

Linda I am trying to follow this family through the census's. I was thinking she lied about her age because she was under 21 when she married so a birth about 1868 could be possible. I am wondering if the registrar asked about her father and she said he was dead so they just put a line through where his name should be, or she said she was Illigitimate, maybe her father didn't approve of the marriage? Georgina. |

thanks Georgina I looked at that, but it's always nice when someone else comes up with the same as you, I'm a bit confused as to why they would name 2 daughters Mary! I'm now thinking that may be mine and that she would have been 18 at marriage maybe no parental consent (was it needed in 1886) and so she left her father blank? Have found a birth for Mary Tranter jan q 1868 which would tie in with that census |

Linda are you sure this is her on the 1891 census? if she married John LLoyd in 1886 wouldn't her surname be LLoyd in 1891? or do you mean that is the 1881 census. Sorry misread your message. My turn for a blond moment. Georgina. |

I surpose he could have died when she was a child and she did not know his name to give to the vicar. My father's Dad died when he was a young child and I noticed on his younger brother's(my uncle) marriage certificate that he gave the wrong name for his father on his marriage certificate. His mother had remarried so perhaps his real father was not talked about. Irene |
