Most of mine are shoemakers... well those that aren't butchers or gardeners... i do, however, have one murderer and a whole family of depotees (that took 200 years to get back!) that i'm willing to trade for say - erm... 1 ag lab?!

I have several ag labs. One husband died falling of a load of barley in the harvest field. His wife died the same day from decline and heart disease. Now did he fall because he was preoccupied with his wife just having died, or did she die from shock ???????? I also have shoemakers, a parish beadle, policemen and a whole load of lockmakers, Mary

Well it looks like my coastgaurd obviuosly missed all the contraband coming up the beaches,unless of course he was 'persauded' to look the other way,and with his son being the master mariner................. Glen

Hi all Unless anyone can correct me re Loakes,as i understand it they are no longer in business,certainly not manufacturing shoes anymore,i believe one of the younger members of the family set up to import shoes after the demise of the shoemaking business. I used to deliver the raw materials to the factory sites (several around Northampton,Irchester,Rushden and Finedon area of Northants). I moved from there about 9 months ago,but hadn't been to any of the sites for a year before that,and remember an article in the local paper about another shoe company going under and Loakes being mentioned with other companies and a breakdown of redundancy figures for the preceding months. So unless they restarted i'm pretty sure that they no longer make any shoes in Northants sites any longer. Glen

Everyone is so amusing. I only found my first ag lab the other day. I have a couple of interesting folk. A couple of printers, a liscenced victualler, a drug packer and a gentleman's hairdresser. Oh and a couple of carver and gilders as well. Made picture frames and the like. I have a shoemaker too. My liscenced victualler (I think it was him) married his 17 year old bride who was given permission to marry by the local JP, 'both parents being dead', their first daughter born some 6/7 months later. Trish **** Surrey has a boiler maker. Linda White's got a boiler rivetter (well, his wife!) and I've got a boiler coverer. Instead of swapping them couldn't we set them up in business together? (Or do all the boilers come from Taiwan now?) (Mine was from Halifax so it might not be feasible if the others weren't!)

Trish, I shall try to nudge up some other ones weve had - to be honest you can learn a lot from them, even though they are written in light vein. There you go, The Most amusing cause of death and the 13 commandments - both of them are very helpful in understanding what most of us come across in our researches.

LOL LOL LOL these threads are better than a good novel! i cant get off here when i start nosing. the only prob i have is if u dont read all of thread in one go u get lost when they are so long.............. when u look at threads how best to do it i have worked out my threads which are not too long.. but when they are many pages long and they can be looked at last one first and viser verser ect ect i loose track am i just plain dim or do i have too learn MORE I DO THINK THE BOARD COULD BE DESIGED A LITTLE BETTER HOPE THE BOSS NOT LOOKING HE KICK ME OFF.. see now i wish it was easier to just nip back and re read some bits to finish off here but i just have to put up with my bad memory and make do poor sole wont be long now . i wish i had an ecuse for it ..i dont shovel feathers s.... or make shoes it must be i was related to a publican
