Hi Ken, You were right for most of the families: Lewis in Monmouthshire Pleass in Somerset Samuel in Glamorgan and Merthyr Tydfil Tolley in Worcestershire Powell in Welsh borders Rapsey in Devon The exceptions were: Metcalf without the (e) was from York Lawrence and Seaborne were both Pembrokeshire Richards and Mulford were both Somerset That was very interesting, thank you very much.

Allen - a hard one this Lancs & W. Riding, Middlesex and Surrey all have large numbers but per % of population showsSedburgh and Aysgarth then surprisingly Huntingdonshire Bate - 2 Areas - Leigh & Warrington - Stourbridge, Dudley & Wolverhampton Cox - Middlesex & Surrey, (possibility of Barton Regis) Duffin - Bradfield in Berks & Nottingham? Ingram - Aberdeenshire, Warwickshire, Middlesex ( Welsh connection Rhayader) Knight SE and Midlands would need to go further back possibly Lowman - Dorset, Weymouth ( Hants, New Forest) Martin - again several possible sources West Country most likely and strong presence in W. Derby, Lancs maybe nautical reasons Oram - Wiltshire, Westbury (Devizes, Pewsey) Riggs - Dorset, Dorchester (Blandford) Warner - sorry unable to form an opinion on this too widespread

Thankyou for your reply, Ken - a bit odd then, that I have a family of twelve, if your source says only one??? And I havent looked for any other Taylors either, but really have difficulty in believing it was a 'rare' name anywhere, let alone Lancashire!!!! Sorry to be awkward.....LOL UPDATE Have I gone completely insane, or what??? Did I merely DREAM the info you posted re Taylors? I cannot find the post!!!! (But, looking quickly on the 1881 on LDS, there are literally THOUSANDS of Taylors, both in AND out of Lancashire, as I suspected) Going for a quiet lie-down and some medicine, I think. Olde Crone

Turner - too widespread to form an opinion as to origin large concentration in Lancs and West Riding Industrial areas Wild - Lancs prominently Oldham Wilde - Lancs - Ashton possible Welsh connections I am assuming Wild is a later derivation of Wilde and there appears to be a general northward shift Corin - emphatically Cornwall emanating from Penzance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keogh - Lancs, Liverpool/. Derby/ Prescot Keough - Bolton/Stockport but low numbers Welsh ..... Southern Scotland, Northumberland & Co. Durham Lanarkshire ( Selkirkshire) Sunderland Betts - Eastern England - Norfolk, Norwich & St. Faiths Price - Welsh borders - Merthyr Tydfil & Brecknock
