Lockyer - Southern England from Devon to Kent notably Wimborne & Fordingbridge, Dorset Wheeler - Reading, Isle of Wight, Henley? Hopley - Cheshire - Chester & Whitchurch S Charnock - Lancs (& to some extent W. Riding) Wigan Bolton - Lancs (& to some extent W. Riding) Blackburn & Bolton Saunders - Southern England in general, Kent, Surrey, Middx - Bucks and I O W Bracey - Gloucs (& to some extent East Anglia) , Barton Regis Keynsham Frost - Strong occurence in London, West Ham, Hackney, Islington and Lambeth suspect influx to city from East Anglia

Shenton - Staffs, Cheadle (Cheshire, Lancs) Procter - Lancs (& to some extent W.Riding) Lunesdale & Settle Proctor - Lancs (& to some extent W.Riding) Preston, Blackburn, & Burnley - although there is a large % of population in Lincolnshire for both possible shift across country? Forrester - Stoke on Trent - or - Stirlingshire Richardson (assumed) - Northern England widespread Northumberland? Moreton - Staffordshire (& Warwickshire), Nuneaton & Northwich Hope - North England - Co. Durham, Auckland, Sunderland & Tynemouth ( Lancs - Bolton, Blackburn & Leigh) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Potter - not easy widespread across England appears to be an industrial area name, Birmingham & Kidderminster or West Derby

Hansford - definitely Southern England, would say Dorset - Bridport (poss. Dorchester) Petheram (Petherham) - I had thought this would be Cornwall but was wrong - Axbridge, Somerset Innes - Aberdeenshire

Unusual lot of names you got there Kat lol Smith - Central England (most likely) Roberts - NW Wales in particular Caernarvonshire Cartwright - Staffs, Stourbridge, Dudley and Wolverhampton ( Wigan and Huddersfield) Newman - Southern England, Westbury, Wiltshire (London) France - West Riding, Huddersfield Hemming - Warwickshire,- Aston, Alcester

FORD - 2200 occurences in Lancs, 3400 in Middx, 1645 in Devon but as percentage of population highest county concentration Wiltshire. Narrowed down highest occurences Barton Regis 513, Aston 397, Birmingham 321 as percentage of pop. Mere 1.4%, Tisbury 1.1%, Wilton 1%, Sth Molton 1%, Dursley 0.9%, Chapel-en-le-Firth 0.8%, not sure what to make of this other than predominently West of England Pool - Wolverhampton and W. Derby industrial gathering?

wow! thats a great result.Many thanks here is feedback on the names Kind regards Kat Roberts- absolutely N.Wales and caernarvonshire also denbighshire and merionethshire.My Roberts have a connection to the grandmother of the Earl of Snowden researching it at mo so this info is great. Cartwright-yes again all my Cartwrights from Dudley area Hemming-yes warwickshire Aston France-? but this is a newish name Newman- yes some of our newmans were in southern england for a few years ,but came from the North, the name was changed from Neumann after WW1 my grt grandfather was German.(hence the name change) that just leaves the unusual ones!! Smith-they are everywhere but mine are from the north Dare I ask any luck with Wilson? Thanks again

Hi Ken, You were spot on with my Yarhams and Dunthornes. Well done! My Kemps came from the same area as my Yarhams and Dunthornes (Walsingham and Docking). (NORFOLK) Ablitts came from Sutton, Waldringfield and Needham Market. (SUFFOLK) Wildings are also called Wilden and came from Needham Market (SUFFOLK) Thanks for this - much appreciated!
