Ken, just a bit of info for you. According to a book on the origins of british surnames I was looking at in the local archives Sharman is one of the many forms of Shearman and is exactly what you imagine. (Sheep shearers) I too have Sharman/ Shearman in my tree originating in Suffolk. I have a marriage certificate and one of the witnesses is described as Elizabeth Shearman/Sharman, the bride's aunt. Thanks to the vicar for the extra info, it helped track down the Bride's Mother.
